Doomed Confessionary: Dawid, Adam, Łukasz, Olaf & Ogi (Engraver)

Engraver is a stoner/doom band from Gdansk, Poland. Rejoining the original members to play, record and share music influenced by the paramount bands in the scene, as much as their personal tastes and ways of playing. Worshipping old rituals and forgotten dieties accompanied by totems, mantras and psychodellic smoke from the greatest stake in the history of witchcraft.

The band’s debut full-length album »Rituals« was released on December 29th, 2023. Available now on all major streaming platforms.

Engraver are Dawid on vocals, Adam on guitar, Łukasz on guitar, Olaf on bass and Ogi on drums.

Can you say a few words about your band?
We are Engraver, from Gdańsk, Poland. We play a hard to define mixture of desert-like slow riffs with more bluesy guitar nuances and heavy drumming. Mostly we are defined as a stoner/doom band but that might change in the future. We formed the band in 2016, but only played togheter for a year, then we parted ways to do other projects and personal stuff. We got together again at the end of 2022 (a big gap for sure) to continue what we started some years ago.

What was the biggest challenge for the band last year?
Writing and recording our first LP called »Rituals« was a challenging experience, especially because we wanted to have the album recorded and released by the end of 2023.

What can you be most proud of so far?
The »Rituals« album of course 😉 We are glad that we got some recognition and a lot of listeners from abroad appreciated our stuff.

What was your biggest regret?
Probably not getting back toghether earlier and making more exciting music quicker.

What was the best concert/tour last year and why?
Surely our gig with Lovecraft and Elbong in Gdańsk at Pub Torpeda was our favourite because we came back to playing gigs after a long break and we met a lot of amazing people and made new friends with some local bands.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
The amount of really good, talented bands that don’t get enough recognition, and the amount of mediocre ones that get much more attention than they should.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
We mostly listen to our new favourite band: Power Plant from Szczecin, Poland.

Can you say something more about the music scene in Gdansk / Poland?
We have some good clubs, one of the biggest heavy music festivals in Poland is happening in our city (Mystic Festival) so there’s really a lot to do, and a lot of great local bands to see as well.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We are going to some new places in the near future:
20.04. Mjazzga, Elbląg w/ our friend from ElBong
24.05. Pub Las, Olsztyn w/ Soma & HighFly
25.05. 2Koła, Warsaw w/ Soma & HighFly

And we also have 2 upcoming local gigs both in our hometown of Gdańsk:
27.04. Drizzly Grizzly as a support act for Dopelord and Sanity Control
12.05. Wydział Remontowy with Weird Tales and Coltaine

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Making new music, discovering new directions in our creative processes, maybe recording a second LP not so long from now. Also, we may be planning a little tour during the fall of this year, but everything is blurry at this point.

How can people best support your band?
Listen to our music, come to our gigs and buy the CD’s of course 😉

Do you have any message for your listeners?
To check out a lot of new music from lesser known bands and artists, its worth it most of the time and you can find some hidden gems.
