Doomed Nation

Sounds For The Lost Generation

Doomed Confessionary: Eduardo Cintron (The Color Of Cyan)

The Color Of Cyan creates emotive instrumental music, seamlessly merging cinematic post-rock, moving orchestral arrangements, ambient, and post-metal. The original iteration of the band was formed in 2000 in San Juan, Puerto Rico (currently based in the US).

During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the project reemerged solely instrumental, with intricate soundscapes and aggressive guitars. Soon after, the band started writing their first full-length album »Agape« (2021), a multi-layered album that patiently builds in pressure and impact while heading squarely toward monolithic detonation.

With »Egress«, the second studio album, The Color Of Cyan, once again blurs the boundaries of their post, metal, and Neo-classical labels by exploring introspective emotions through delicate layering. »Egress« dropped in September 2023 via Dunk!Records (EU) and A Thousand Arms (US).

Can you say a few words about your band?
The Color Of Cyan is an instrumental post-rock band with strong classical and ambient music influences. The project was conceived in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and is currently based in Chicago, IL.

What was the biggest challenge for the band last year?
There’s always pressure on an album release year, and aligning all the media efforts to promote it was probably the most challenging thing for us last year. Most of it went as planned, but a few key ones didn’t pan out for reasons beyond our control. Still, we are delighted with the album response and beyond grateful for all the people who listen to our music.

What can you be most proud of last year?
Releasing »Egress« is what we are most proud of last year. Releasing the second album for any project, in my mind, is the most difficult, as we want it to be at the same level as the first but also carry a sense of evolution to who we are now. We are currently working on the third album, and it already feels like it is flowing in the right direction. It is very organic and authentic to our music language.

What is your biggest regret?
The Color Of Cyan was put on hold for almost a decade. It took a pandemic to bring it back. I wish I had it brought back to life sooner.

What was the best concert/tour last year and why?
We played in Chicago last year, and it was special as new members could finally play live. We’ve been rehearsing for a while and wanted to a show all together under the belt.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
I don’t recall any surprises for us. When bands support each other, it is always something we love to see. We always try to support everyone around us. I also try not to expect much, on the other hand.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We are planning shows in the USA, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. We look forward to sharing the details of a great show coming in the summer.

What are your plans for this year as a band? What do you personally want the most?
As previously mentioned, we are tracking the third studio album. We don’t have a release day yet, as I’m giving myself time to think and re-edit, write the strings scores, etc. I’m also planning some ambient singles and short minimal instrumentation tracks. It may come out as monthly releases. Let’s see, It could be fun.
