Canadian doom bringers Yeti On Horseback will unleash their new full-length, »Traditional Addictions«, on July 24th.
Yeti On Horseback is an almighty roaring musical beast that refuses to be silenced and lives to give audiences an alternative perspective on modern metal. Their sound contains howling vocals over doom-laden riffs that slice through the heart of formulaic music and hail bands like Sleep, Electric Wizard, Yob, and Melvins.
Hailing from London, Ontario, the band exists to fill a void left in heavy metal with their seemingly merciless ability to forge a sound as unique and original as it is lethal and intoxicating. Misanthropic sonic sludge and macabre lyrics are laid over a musical foundation of soul-crushing riffs that flow freely from their dedication to all that is heavy. Of their 2016 debut full-length, »The Great Dying«, Metal Injection crowned Yeti On Horseback, “doom’s hope for the future.”
The band’s forthcoming opus, »Traditional Addictions«, was recorded with Greg Dawson over the course of four years. The album theme stems from the cycle of trauma and addiction begetting one another throughout modern history. The record flows to and from these themes with each side of the album.

The band comments, “This is easily our best work to date, as a rising tide lifts all ships. It’s a natural progression from our previous work and shows where the band is heading. It’s still the monumentally crushing, heavy, and damning sound of Yeti On Horseback, but with a new, more focused, thick sound and layered vocals. Working with Greg at BWC Studios elevated and challenged us further than we ever could have imagined. There is no replacement for life experience; we can all manipulate technology, but not everyone can shepherd and guide. Greg became a friend, a leader, and a contributor, proving to be the right choice at the right time.”
The band’s lead single, »Erotic Goth Dad«, touches on spiritual terrorism and sexual abuse within the Catholic Church. Elaborates vocalist S.S., “»Erotic Goth Dad« is the album finisher, and the full circle reprise of the trauma aspect that spawns – or cures – addiction. [vocalist/guitarist] R.P. and I wanted to make this song symbolize the generational mental and sexual abuse within the constructs of religion. ‘The Father, the Son, the Holy Serpent’ is the power line of the act of change that represents falsehoods touted and spread throughout these institutions as an abstraction of faith. We intentionally left this as the last track to show where Yeti On Horseback is heading musically for the next album.”
Adds founding father R.P., “»Erotic Goth Dad« is arguably our most dense and ambitious track to date which is a striking feat considering a catalog already defined by visceral emotional weight. Despite that intensity, it’s the song everyone leaves the venue whistling. Packed with earworm after earworm, this is the ‘radio hit’ of the record.”

»Traditional Addictions« will be available on vinyl and digital formats. Jes Dunn (Ad Astra Tattoo) worked closely with the band to create a field-journal-style art layout that truly coalesces the message of the album into a visual format.
