“This is a journey. Pretend it’s some nebulous day in the 80’s (before the cell phone slave brick we are all attached to ruined everything haha) and you just picked up an LP, brought it to a friend’s house, had a smoke or a beer and let yourselves go.

»Scars« is a deeply personal and experimental album from the mind of one man, visual artist and musician Barry James Lent (aka The Gremble and the Choruster in the album credits). The album is an angry and sometimes emotional journey through a lifetime of shit personally gone through, that perhaps many of you will relate to (one can only hope hahah!). Told “poetically” through various metal and metal adjacent styles, the overall message is one of doggedness and determination in the face of adversity.

The opening instrumental track »Highlands Grin« is a simple ode to the beginning of life, when optimism is still intact. It has a vastly different color from the bulk of the album, but this is EXACTLY the point. The second track »Scars (From My Time)« begins the album proper and exhibits the vitriol that comes when the reality of life settles in. The remainder of the journey weaves through various corridors until it closes on »Forsaken«, a death dream that recurred for nearly a decade, in which the protagonist (Me) had died, and found himself trapped in his childhood home for all time and unable to escape. Haunting, in the literal sense of the word. Again, vastly different in color to the bulk of the album…

I hope you enjoy the journey…” — Barry James Lent (Gremble / Choruster)

»Scars« is a full-length demo album from the one-man project Providence.

Style: metal, death metal, doom, avant-garde, folk, 70s proto-metal. No AI!

Individual video playlist link (with own artwork for each video) HERE.

Meant to be listened to as an album in its entirety.

All instruments were recorded as live as possible for a DIY project, with no plug ins, quantization, or tricky edits used. No AI was, or will ever be used within the Providence project. Mistakes, happy accidents, unbelievable sloppiness and all other human touches remain a part of all of these recordings. A true “warts and all” approach, that will hopefully please those looking for realness in metal music.
