»White Shores« is the fifth studio album by Swiss post-rock band hubris., released on September 10th, 2026.

Following four albums rooted in Greek mythology, composer and founder Jonathan Hohl turns to another profound source of inspiration: J.R.R. Tolkien’s exploration of mortality and immortality.

The elves, in Tolkien’s legendarium, refer to death as the “Gift of Men.” They regard mortality not as a curse, but as a unique gift granted to humankind. This paradox offers a striking alternative to the Western perception of death as purely tragic, presenting it instead as coveted and desirable. In the wake of the passing of Jonathan’s grandfather, this idea became the emotional and conceptual foundation of White Shores.

»Death«, the album’s opening movement, was the first piece composed, and its opening chords became the foundation upon which the entire record was built. Each subsequent composition emerged from a different stage of the grieving process, reflecting not only the emotions experienced along the way, but also an evolving understanding of death itself.

The album unfolds across five movements, each representing a word in a single sentence: Death. Is. Just. Another. Path.

Through introspective soundscapes, soaring crescendos, and moments of quiet reflection, White Shores explores loss, memory, fear, acceptance, and the possibility that death is not simply an ending, but another step in a journey beyond our understanding.
