The »Mahre« shortfilm was created by the Finnish multidisciplinary visual artist Eeli Helin.
The film is an exploration of the depths of human psyche, the dreads and terrors concealed within it, and how it looks like when these abstract notions come into flesh and present themselves in tangible reality. It’s an immersive experience of a callous and colourless world where nightmares are personified, deeply unsettling and disturbing. The narrative is buried deep, as the viewer is invited to take the plunge into the world of »Mahre« without safeguards or exit signs in place.
About the creation of the film counterpart for »Mahre«, Helin comments:
“It is always a pleasure to work with Rorcal, and this, the most gigantic undertaking of my artistic career so far, that took over a year to accomplish, was no different. The initial idea was to draw some bits of influence from certain genre films and look at those through my own lens, in order to match the music, the album’s themes, and to create something that’s equally visceral as it is captivating, just like Rorcal itself.”

»Mahre« is the 7th album of the Swiss “abyss dwellers” quintet.
What if dreams had turned into infectious agents, replicating through the night, contaminating sleepers one by one? That is the postulate Rorcal explores on this new album. Each night, the dreams grow darker; slowly unfolding into an endless nightmare that consumes dreamers’ souls.
Crossing the threshold is no easy task. The door does not open from the outside – and it leads nowhere within. Trapped in an absurd loop, the mind loses its bearings, no longer certain whether it has left the shores of reality or merely drifted into a concealed realm: a ruined universe haunted by an ancient threat.
Shadows become moons. Moons become demons. Decay unfolds into a labyrinth.
Yet the world of dreams reveals itself as tangible in disturbing ways. Souls merge, infect, and contaminate one another. The dream is a virus for which everyone becomes an incubator. Awareness offers no salvation – only the realization that it is already too late. The senses dull; the labyrinth fades into ashen tones; even the stench of decay begins to dissipate.
The contamination is swift, yet patient in its revelation. It is called morning – though it is nothing but the night prolonging itself. From pale mirrors, sleep rises again, even in broad daylight. Days that have not yet begun already collapse. And soon, all things converge in the night.
