American Sacred Music is an attempt to echo, long after this voice goes silent. Formed in 2025 after the natural conclusion of his main project, Atlanta, GA based musician AP Lewis set out to chase the sounds that still provoked and inspired him in a time where he’d never felt more burnt out and jaded. While a cohesive aesthetic and vision remain, the forms that the music have taken are constantly shifting.
Initial influences have included slowcore, black metal, glitch, and harsh noise – encompassed within the three EPs and various singles released in 2026 alone. The upcoming release of »Fig On Wrist«, a behemoth of a track that clocks in around 13 minutes, marks yet another ambitious shift in sound for the band to include elements of drone, folk, and sludge.
»Fig On Wrist« is the sound of an artist at a crossroads. American Sacred Music spent the bulk of 2026 releasing various splits, collaborations, and singles that ranged in sound from aggressive black metal to mellowed out slowcore; but with their latest offering, a 13 minute long epic named after the label and recording studio that the band is affiliated with, showcases a stark evolution of an already amorphous project.

Previous influences are still present, but are encased in a haze of sludge and drones that melt into the most atmospheric offering ASM has presented to date. Harsh vocals are largely eschewed in favor of traditional melody, serving as a contrast to the dour and forbidding instrumental and accompanying field recordings.
Lyrically, the track weaves between the darker side of nostalgia and stark regret; walking the listener through a series of fragmented experiences, as if the listener happened upon stories at their midpoint rather than a proper beginning or end. “I wanted to self mythologize” says sole member, AP Lewis. “While I don’t think my past experiences are particularly noteworthy in the grand scheme of things, they are the only experiences I have… I like music that takes the listener on a journey or presents some sort of narrative arc.”
The accompanying film for the piece adds some context, however vague it may be. There are what appear to be home videos from several decades compiled together and stretched into a loose narrative, further pushing home the cassette-worn nostalgia suggested in the production style. “Source decay has always fascinated me… the great equalizer between all of us and our surroundings is that we are aging… There’s an opportunity cost to every choice we make, it’s what makes life precious and tragic”.
A limited run of 12″ vinyl, cassette tapes, and CDs will be available to commemorate the release. In addition to »Fig On Wrist«, they include the entire EP »The Frailty Of Everything« + two non album singles (»Night Wept« & »Tunnel Of Reverb«).
