Death Cult 69 is a doom metal band based in Berlin, Germany. They just released their new three-track EP »Hell On Earth« on July 8th, 2024.
Death Cult 69 consists of Konstantin Michaely (guitar, vocals), Luc Lacroix (drums), Fern Czar (bass, screams, backing vocals) and Marie Ko San (organ).
Can you say a few words about your band?
We are Death Cult 69 and we play doom metal. 50% of us are female, which is still pretty rare for our genre unfortunately. Another thing that’s noteworthy is that we have an organist in the band and two vocalists.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Finding time for everything since we are all incredibly busy people.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Finishing our debut album which will be out in early 2025.
What was your biggest regret?
Not investing in Bitcoin 10 years ago.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
I love playing festival shows. We were on the line-up of In Flammen Open Air and Walpurgisnacht Festival this year and Stella Nomine Festival in 2023 – those gigs were lots of fun.
I also enjoyed the club tour with Eden weint im Grab we played last year.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
That contacts and marketing skills are so much more important than the actual music.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
I’m listening a lot to my doom metal playlist which I’ve updated recently. The intention was to put together the best songs from six decades of heavy riffing, all subgenres: epic doom, funeral doom, stoner doom, sludge… You name it! What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
I’ll give you one that no one ever gave me but everybody should internalize: Don’t tell people
about things you are planning to do, just tell them about things that you’ve actually done. Not just regarding music, in general.
What are your guilty pleasures?
No guilt in pleasure.
Can you say something more about the music scene in Berlin?
Berlin has a lot of interesting bands from various different genres. I’m grateful for being surrounded by so much creativity!
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We won’t play any more shows in 2024, but our debut album comes out in early 2025 and there will definitely be some concerts in support of the album. Follow us on social media to stay up to date!
