Berlin, Germany based alternative/noise rock supergroup Death By Gong (with members of Radare, Zahn, The Ocean and Heads.) stream their debut album, »Descalator«, which was just released on September 20th, 2024 via Crazysane Records.

September 20, 2024, Death By Gong release their debut album »Descalator«, a thrilling blend of styles described as a “perverted psychedelic Britpop-grunge cocktail on methadone” Metal1 info. The Berlin trio masterfully fuse heavy shoegaze, post-punk, and electronica, creating a unique and timeless sound. According to Krachfink the album synthesizes “a positive, enchanting effect” through “crazy genre transfers” and expansive songwriting. With eight flawless tracks, Muzzartpraises it as “a marvellous feast” where the band leaves its distinct mark. The vocals, as Post-Punk com notes, evoke “the wistful tones” of The Beatles and Kurt Cobain, adding a deeply emotional layer to the sonic intensity. As Handwritten Mag puts it, Descalator is truly “music by freaks for freaks.”

Filmed at Die Mühle studios in Gyhum, Germany, this performance captures the band’s intense, raw energy, giving fans a taste of what to expect from their live shows this fall. Recorded, mixed, and edited by Peter Voigtmann with filming and lighting by Michael Rosner, the session showcases music and lyrics written by Jobst M. Feit, Chris Breuer and Peter Voigtmann.

Death By Gong are a new band featuring Jobst M. Feit (Radare), Peter Voigtmann (SHRVL / ex-The Ocean) and Chris Breuer (Zahn, Heads.). »Descalator« is driven by a tension of heavyness and vulnerability, fusing the epic sound of Failure or Torche with the soft vocal delivery and song craftsmanship of Elliott Smith, shoegaze guitar clouds in the vein of My Bloody Valentine or DIIV and synthetic textures that could have been penned by Geoff Barrow (Portishead, Beak). A sonic exploration of human decline in all its facets.

The album was recorded by Peter Voigtmann at Die Mühle in Gyhum and mixed as well as mastered by Joe Joaquin (Slut, Van Holzen, Muff Potter). Artwork and graphic design by Fabian Bremer (AUA, Radare, Velcros).
