Deaf Lizard is a four-piece psychedelic stoner rock band based out of Oldenburg, Germany.

Deaf Lizard’s sound is a rough orgy of heavy fuzz rock paired with psychedelic and doomy ingredients that will hit you before you know it. Years of experience and the upmost worship of the forefathers of heavy rock lead the band to continue on their quest for stoner galore.

While their self-released debut album »No Man’s Sky« was welcomed wholeheartedly by the stoner rock community in 2020, Deaf Lizard is gearing up release their second full-length »The Last Odyssey« on November 1st, 2024 via Electric Valley Records.

Deaf Lizard are Patrick (guitar, vocals, percussion), Steffen (guitar, backing vocals), Lars (bass, vocals) and Marc (drums, keyboards, synthesizer).

Can you say a few words about your band?
Deaf Lizard are from Germany and experts in psychedelic stoner rock. We’ve been around for a while and now we’re about to release our second album »The Last Odyssey« on Nov. 1st via Electric Valley Records.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
One of the biggest challenges, besides obviously the lockdown times, was deciding how to release this new record. It was finished around the end of the Covid craze in 2023. Vinyl production had been difficult during the pandemic and we weren’t sure if releasing it only digitally would do the record justice as we’re really proud of the end result. Fortunately, we got in contact with our new label and everything fell into place.

What can you be most proud of so far?
We’re also really proud of our first album and its successful release in early 2020. It was our first major release which we completely pulled off ourselves. We got orders from all around the world – it was all DIY but we managed to deal with the demand. Also the reception was really good. We didn’t have any expectations beforehand so that made us very proud. It’s still a very good record! Go listen to it! 😉

What was your biggest regret?
We had to cancel a few shows supporting German krautrock band Wucan and the legendary Black Rainbows. Those would have been epic shows for sure!

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
There are two standout shows for us. Once we played in the belly of a ship in Hamburg. That was really cool. The whole concert was filmed and is up on YouTube! The other show was at the end of our tour supporting our first record. It was in our home town Oldenburg in a very nice location and many fans and friends attending.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
It’s always a bit surprising to see how well things can work out when you’re dedicated and put in the work that needs to be done. We’ve always done most things ourselves, as most bands do in the beginning, so having this new record being released through a legit record label is a big step forward for us.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Right now, we’re listening to King Buffalo, Nightstalker, Black Sabbath, Black Rainbows, Kadavar. Also some of our local bands like Fuser, Shelter From The Sun or Fuzzerati are worth checking out!

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
How to do a proper soundcheck. It just saves everyone time if you know what you’re doing! Also, it’s not necessary to jump at every single opportunity to play. You should know your own worth as an artist and play for the right audience.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Well, let’s just say next to beer we have a relatively high demand for Haribo in our rehearsal space. There’s always a pot full of gummy bears or something in the middle. That’s not very Rock’n’Roll now, is it? 😀

Can you say something more about current music scene in Oldenburg / Lower Saxony?
Our home city Oldenburg has a very good and thriving music scene. There are so many bands that make real quality music. I mentioned a few of them already. There’s always some concert or event that’s worth going to. Many nice, supportive people around. We’ve been around since 2014 but it’s not getting boring.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
On November 8th we have a big concert coming up which is going to be the release show of »The Last Odyssey«. There is a local record store called MTS Records which has always been very supportive. That’s where it’s going to be. We’ll bring some of our friends and it’s going to be a big party. For 2025 we’re currently planning to play more shows in support of our new record. Stay tuned on our social media for updates on this!

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We’ll just keep doing what we’re good at: Jamming, writing, recording and playing live. We’re also very excited about our future with Electric Valley Records. We’ll see what the future holds! It’s looking really promising right now.

How can people best support your band?
The best way to support us is to check out our Bandcamp shop and grab some merch, maybe a T-shirt or Vinyl. We’re doing most of the designs ourselves and Bandcamp is very fair with sharing revenue with artists. Also there are some exclusive releases on there for you to check out!

Do you have any message for your listeners?
We’re very grateful for everyone who listens to our music and leaves feedback. Without our listeners there wouldn’t be any reason for us to put in the work. So, have it be known that every single one of you people is appreciated and loved!
