The band comments: “»Space Ghost« is about a wild, psychedelic journey through space and time. The imagery of a “space machine” that “screams like a wolverine” and “rocks your rib cage like a raw beast” sets the tone for an intense, high-energy experience. The song emphasizes a sense of liberation and escape from reality. The mention of passing Mercury and floating in the fifth dimension adds a cosmic, otherworldly element to the journey. The lyrics also touch on themes of time travel, exploration, and the desire for freedom. Overall, the song celebrates the thrill of adventure and the pursuit of an unreal, transcendent reality.”
Sonically, Headphone Jacks draws inspiration from 90’s grunge and 00’s desert rock, prog, post-punk and today’s alternative bands. Band is not simply satisfied with writing just genre-faithful pieces – they mix it up with layered backing vocals to create lush choruses setting us apart from the typical meat-and-potatoes hard rock band. Each band member contributes to arranging and bringing in riffs, melodies and ideas.

About Headphone Jacks:
Headphone Jacks was invented in guitarist J-P Herlevi’s home studio in Kerava, Finland during the summer of 2018. “We were just goofing around with GarageBand and putting down J-P’s riffs to drums and bass lines, then I wrote quick lyrics and sang something. We dug it right away and even in the morning after through our mild hangovers we still thought the results still sounded pretty good. First ideas were pretty basic but we thought we have our own sound,” said Jaakko.
The duo quickly became a trio and then a quartet when multi-instrumentalist brothers Riku-Pekka (guitar, vocals) and Aleksi Lappalainen (drums) joined. All members of the group have a long history with different bands and projects and contribute to the band’s output. The band does often get commended for their live shows and first-time listeners are surprised of what they had experienced. Headphone Jacks has its own sound and its own thing going.
The band holds its HQ in an industrial estate in Helsinki in a mixed commune comprising other bands and various motorcycle clubs. The guys have regular day jobs. Jaakko is a manager in a software firm, J-P a sales manager, Aleksi a freelance corporate graphics designer and Riku-Pekka lives behind the film camera for TV shows.
