Burning Sanctum, emerging from the depths of the Montreal underground in 2020 – a period marked by uncertainty and upheaval. Carries a sound that mirrors the dismal vibes of their inception. They draw listeners into a world of heavy, slow, and crushing doom metal, emphasizing themes of occultism and ritualistic practice. With a powerful auditory presence that evokes images of monolithic entities to be revered, Burning Sanctum encapsulates an experience that is both intense and meditative.
The lineup features Cintia Ventania, recognized for her work with the thrash metal band Scatha, takes on guitar and bass duties, creating a formidable foundation with intricate riffs and heavy grooves. On drums is David McCorkell, ex-Ritual Master, whose precise rhythms enhance the band’s crushing cadence. Ethan Desjardins, also coming from Ritual Master, provides a demonic Demi-baritone vocal that delivers prophetic messages of impending doom, further amplifying the band’s haunting atmosphere.
Together, as the “three leather-clad horsemen of the apocalypse,” Burning Sanctum crafts a sonic tapestry that not only resonates with their audience but also serves as a conduit for expressing the darker facets of human experience – truly a heavyweight doom metal force bringing listeners face to face with their undoing.
