Nerve Debt is a noise metal/funeral hardcore band from Greenville, SC consisting of drummer Brad Elrod [AmRep-era Today Is The Day, Alien In The Land Of Our Birth], guitarist/vocalist/noise worker Alex Angell [Waft, Gláss], and vocalist Zach Newton [Waft, This Mountain Is Man]. The band was initially discussed over text between Brad and Alex while the latter was on bedrest after a major lung surgery; once fully well, the two brought Zach Newton on board, known for his savage vocal delivery behind the drums in Greenville sludge metal mainstays Waft. Their sound includes elements of chaotic dissonant doom, Hydra Head angular mathcore, strange noises/unsettling samples, and a juxtaposition of jarring odd-times and glacially martial repetition. The band have released one EP, »Pleural Hymns«; this recording was released on April 26, 2024 [now on limited cassette via Foreign Sounds as of November 7, 2024] and the band are currently working on their next release. Foreign Sounds presents a cassette edition of 100 copies.
