Youngstown, Ohio based doom/sludge metal trio Rebreather has announced their new album, »Chaos Patterns«, which will be released on October 30th, 2026 via Aqualamb Records.

There are moments when the underground stops asking for permission.

For more than two decades, Youngstown, Ohio’s Rebreather have been quietly accumulating mass. Record after record. Show after show. »Chaos Patterns« feels like the moment that mass becomes gravity.

Formed in 1999, Rebreather emerged from doom and sludge but never fit comfortably inside it – drawing on the thunder of Floor and Cavity, the nervous energy of Barkmarket, the melodic rumble of Hum, while building a language of their own: detailed melody buried inside overwhelming force, dissonance capable of becoming beautiful, vulnerability surviving inside music designed to overwhelm. Call it cave pop. Call it organized chaos. On »Chaos Patterns«, those contradictions finally become inseparable.

The opening »I Love You With Some Of My Heart« makes it immediately apparent – tectonic low end, enormous guitars and physical drums remain, but the melody no longer hides inside the weight. The beautiful and the brutal have become the same thing.

From there, »Less Than Or Equal To« turns repetition into momentum. »Landing« opens outward into space and melody. »Lost And Found« moves between restraint and release, while »Beautiful« compresses the band’s sound into pure forward motion. »Anxious Attachments« may be the clearest glimpse of where that momentum can lead – it carries all of Rebreather’s weight and abrasion, but underneath is something immediate, melodic, and deeply human. The song doesn’t reach for accessibility; accessibility emerges from its emotional force. By the closing »Float«, the record has learned to leave the ground entirely, its weight dissolving into sustained sound, distortion and atmosphere.

Rebreather have spent more than two decades learning how to make heaviness move. »Chaos Patterns« doesn’t feel like a reinvention. It feels like an arrival.

This is one of those genre-defining moments when a group forged outside the center suddenly creates something so powerful that its sheer gravity pulls the center toward them. Not because the music becomes safer, but because we are finally ready.
