Soft Curse is a gloom metal band from Santa Rosa, CA, formed in 2025 by members of screamo band State Faults and drummer Dan Ford.

The band commented: “»Liminal Ritual«, our debut album, was recorded live to two-inch analog tape on January 23rd, 2026 by Jack Shirley at the Atomic Garden in Oakland, California.
Maybe we were naive, or just overly confident, but we decided to record eight songs in a single day. As any musician knows, that’s not a lot of time. Most songs were captured in just one or two takes, three max if we really needed it. But what we got was raw, energetic, and the truest representation of what it sounds like when the four of us get together and play.

We tracked everything live, standing in a circle together, Orange amps blazing, Dan’s drums pulsing, feeding off each other’s energy after ten months of writing, practicing, and woodshedding.
None of it would have been possible without the immense talent and professionalism of Jack Shirley.
In less than a month, the full energy and magic of these sessions will finally be revealed. We’re excited to release a new kind of music that none of us have done before.
