American hard rock/stoner metal duo Stoned Phoenix (with former members of Disenchanter) presents their self-titled debut release!

Portland, Oregon based hard rock/stoner metal duo Stoned Phoenix presents their self-titled debut album, which was just released on September 22nd, 2023.

Born just hours apart in the San Francisco Bay Area Sabine Stangenberg and Joey DeMartini have been writing and performing music together for the better part of the last two decades. Raised in Marin County, California and attending the same grade and high school the two were tossed together during the best times for hard rock and heavy metal and exposed to the rise of the Bay’s best thrash metal bands during their high school years where, even at the behest of their friends, they never spoke but circled one another with curious eyes. The fated duo eventually united in the late 90s and became an inseparable force.

Joey had been active in local bands since the early 90s and Sabine was busy composing her own music which she would eventually begin to play out in solo performances. The two moved from the Marin-Sonoma area in the mid 2000’s and found themselves in Portland, Oregon where the stoner-doom scene was re-igniting after a short intermission. They returned to the Bay Area for a short respite in 2010 and began forming what would become their most established group, Disenchanter, with Sabine handling all guitar and vocal duties and Joey on bass guitar and soon re-emerged in the Portland area just as the stoner-doom scene was blowing up nationally in 2012.

After ten years of profuse local gigging as a three piece act in the PNW and a handful of national tours, performing at such auspicious events as The Maryland Doom Fest, Stoned Meadow of Doom Festival, Descendants of Crom, and the Indianapolis Doomed and Stoned Festival, as well as numerous invitations to Portland, OR’s Ceremony of Sludge and three well received releases, supported by labels such as Cosmic Tomb, NoSlip Records and DHU Records, the two decided it was time to strike out on their own as a duo and wrote a new set of material and formed a new band, Stoned Phoenix.

Aside from a few shows Disenchanter had been a three piece act with a rotating cast of talented drummers backing up the two string players but Stoned Phoenix would be a two piece with Sabine once again handling guitar and vocals and Joey switching up from bass guitar to drums and backing vocals. The two honed their songs while Joey accustomed himself to the new instrument for the better part of a year and then, after acquiring the talents of Ian McAlpine, whom the two had worked with previously on two of Disenchanter’s singles releases, they began recording their new songs at GON Recording Studios in early summer of 2023 and soon after made their debut appearance at The Fire In The Sky Festival in Scio, Oregon.

A self-titled five song album was released on September 22, 2023 with a self-released CD version being made available soon after. The new songs were well received and the duo is currently scheduled to play shows for the remainder of the year in the PNW and is looking forward to 2024 as being the year of The Phoenix!
