Tabernaculum is a new doom metal band from Sydney, Australia. Founded mid 2025, Tabernaculum features veterans Karl Stepien (ex-Gallileous) on guitar/bass and Scott Mullins (ex-Persecution) on drums. Their debut demo was released on May 23rd, 2026.
Tabernaculum mastermind Karl Stepien about the band’s future and musical background:
“We are also in the process of finalising 9 songs (42 minutes) of full-length material and should be mixed up by September. It’s very heavy doom/death in vein of Gallileous, Xysma, Disgrace, Thergothon etc, new vocals will be more growling than demo, as last vocalist left band recently.
I originally played in funeral doom metal band Gallileous (1991-95). I formed that band and played on Gallileous 1994 demo »Passio et Mors«, (in 2007 re-released as album by Redrum666 Records). It is probably one of the heaviest funeral doom metal demo/albums of that era. Even though songs from that material were on Terrorizer Mag & Zero Tolerance Mag CD compilations, that demo/album is relatively unknown.”

“While Sydney’s Persecution was supporting Bolt Thrower, Pungent Stench, Fear Factory in early 1990’s on their Australian shows with Scott drumming. I think their demo »Encapsulated« is absolutely cracker!”
