Austrian post-metal band Hills Like White Lions releases their third full-length album, »Canary«, on October 9, 2026.

Set in outer space, »Canary« is a concept album that explores the challenges of growing up through a science-fiction narrative.

While remaining rooted in the band’s atmospheric post-metal sound, the album ventures into new musical territory.

Speaking about the creative process, the band explains:

“For the very first time we incorporated shouted vocals to reflect the horrors the main character experiences throughout the story.”

»Canary« features guest appearances by Eklatanz (Heretoir) and Pipi Gogerl (Novena, Ancient Fragments), whose performances further expand the album’s sonic palette.

The album was produced by Norbert Leitner, while the artwork was created by Thomas Gasperlmair, whose previous collaborations include Gojira and Elder.

With »Canary«, Hills Like White Lions continue to refine their distinctive blend of atmosphere and heaviness, delivering their most immersive and emotionally intense release to date.

About Hills Like White Lions: Florian Wagner (vocals, guitar), Alexander Augustin (bass) and Hannes Lettner (drums) released their self-titled debut in May 2020. This euphoric-melancholic concept album tells a story about human mistakes and love. Soon, the release of a live studio session followed in May 2021.

In 2023, it was time to present the new LP. »Meander« is the second installment, which continued the band’s journey through dreams and reality and offered a courageous mix of one-track and concept album. They had the chance to present this album supporting bands like Yawning Man and Hexvessel. In June 2024 their song »Artificial Sand« was released.

With the support of new band member Reinhard Farnberger (synths, vocals) their third album »Canary« was created. Like its predecessors, this album was also produced by the brilliant Norbert Leitner. Canary explores the challenges of growing up. It’s their heaviest and most emotional album yet!
