Austrian progressive sludge metal band Pryne drops a brand new single »To Carry No Soul«, released on July 3rd, 2026.

Gigantic grooves, heavy yet catchy riffs, and multi-layered vocals shape the unmistakable sound of Pryne. Formed in Austria in 2021, the progressive sludge metal band combines the sheer force of the genre with melodic depth and a clearly defined identity of its own. Inspired by bands such as Mastodon and Baroness, Pryne create a modern alternative metal sound that is as powerful as it is captivating in a live setting.

Since their very first show, the band has been convincing audiences with intense live performances and has quickly made a name for itself beyond the Austrian scene.

Pryne have played numerous club shows and festivals, sharing the stage with Zeal & Ardor (Linz, 2024), Disillusion (Vienna, 2024), and Psychlona (Vienna, 2023), among others.

Just a few months after forming, Pryne released their debut EP »U.P.O – Unidentified Prynian Object (live)« via the Viennese independent label StoneFree Records (home to Spiral Drive, Savanah, The Heavy Minds, among others). The four tracks, accompanied by a live video recorded at Explosiv Graz, precisely capture the band’s raw energy and dynamic interplay. The organic creation of this material is rooted not least in the members’ long-standing experience from previous projects such as Roadkill, My Friend Peter, Suncrust, and High Brian.

One year later, the band released their first full-length album »Gargantuan«. Recorded at Rockstudio Stainz and once again released via StoneFree Records, the album spans ten tracks and approximately 46 minutes, combining dystopian melodies, massive soundscapes, and a consistent artistic evolution.

Pryne continued this evolution in 2025: with the release of the EP »SMOL«, their musical journey gained further depth and culminated in the 8.5-minute conceptual epic »Drifting Sun // Shifting None« – a powerful statement of the band’s ambition and creative vision.
