Belgium’s most unpredictable noise-rock troublemakers are back. On September 18, 30,000 Monkies will release »Super Rebound«, a new full-length album that finds the band pushing their self-described “champagnemetal” philosophy further than ever before: louder, heavier, stranger, and surprisingly uplifting.
For more than a decade, the Beringen quartet have occupied a unique corner of the European underground. Emerging from the Belgian noise-rock scene, 30,000 Monkies built their reputation through a series of increasingly adventurous releases that balanced cathartic chaos with an unmistakable sense of fun. From the dizzying riff storms of Somewhere Over The Painbow to the manic experimentation of »I Ate Myself To Grow Twice As Big« and »Honesty Integrity Friendship Passion«, the band have consistently refused to follow conventional paths.
With »Super Rebound«, however, they may have finally arrived at their ultimate destination.
The new album captures a band fully embracing every aspect of what heavy music can be. Massive sludge-laden riffs collide with open harmonies, math-rock twists, foghorn blasts, and bursts of pure exhilaration, creating a record that feels simultaneously crushing and euphoric. It is an album built on contrasts: deranged yet heartfelt, aggressive yet welcoming, absurd yet deeply sincere.
At its core, »Super Rebound« tells a story of resilience. The album chronicles the art of turning setbacks into momentum, transforming disappointment, frustration, and adversity into fuel for forward motion. Across its action-packed runtime, 30,000 Monkies celebrate the idea that every defeat can become the beginning of a comeback.
That spirit runs through every corner of the record. While moments of uncertainty and darkness emerge throughout the journey, they are never allowed to dominate. Instead, the album repeatedly breaks through the fog with a sense of clarity, purpose, and defiant optimism. It is a celebration of perseverance delivered through towering riffs and unfiltered energy.
According to the band, »Super Rebound« represents the realization of a vision they have been pursuing for years:
“We’re pretty proud of this one, because we feel we’ve finally found the spot we’ve been aiming for: a bright, open, joyful, yet still crushingly hard kind of music. It’s an attempt to show how we experience heavy music in all its diversity: a full, ecstatic, technicolor experience, and an antidote to any combination of shades of black.”
Four years after the experimental detours of »Honesty Integrity Friendship Passion«, the band have distilled their eccentricity into a sharper and more focused form. The result is a collection of songs that hit harder, move faster, and leave a deeper impact without sacrificing the adventurous spirit that defines 30,000 Monkies.
Musically, the album sees the band continuing to evolve beyond their noise-rock origins. Tectonic sludge, progressive arrangements, infectious hooks, blackened edges, and sheer sonic excess coexist naturally within a sound that remains unmistakably their own. It is heavy music designed not to wallow in darkness, but to celebrate survival.
Recorded at GAM Studios by Kasper De Sutter and Martijn De Bondt, with additional recording by Ruben Savelkoul, »Super Rebound« was mixed by Scott Evans (Kowloon Walled City, Sumac, Yautja) at Antisleep Audio and mastered by Matthew J. Barnhart, giving the album both immense power and remarkable clarity.
