“The last relentless murmur, barely audible and uncontrollable, yearning for the glow and hoping for a new dawn.”

Cinerea is a dreary post/sludge metal from Berlin, Germany. The name “Cinerea”, derived from the Latin word for ashes, is the residue left behind after a material is consumed by fire, representing the conclusion of something once vibrant and alive. This could be the remnants of a once roaring fire, the aftermath of a cremation, or the byproduct of destruction. Ashes are inherently linked to the concept of impermanence, symbolising the transient nature of life. Yet, despite their seemingly lifeless state, ashes hold the potential for renewal and rebirth, as they can serve as fertile ground for new growth or the foundation for something new to emerge. This meaning extends beyond the idea of physical residue. It encapsulates the essence of what remains after life have subsided.

Says the band: “»To Ground Myself In The Present« out in full on all platforms!

»To Ground Myself In The Present« unfolds as a cycle mirroring the internal processes of depression: from collapse to resurgence, from disorientation to alienation, from the inescapable self-scourging to the baffling illusion of permanent healing.

»Posfácio« was composed first, back in 2023, almost immediately after concluding our first self-titled EP. We initially envisioned it as last in the track order of »To Ground Myself In The Present«, but as we were writing the lyrics for it, the concept of Prefácio / Posfácio (Preface / Postface) duality gradually began to take form and showed us that the two faces could be presented in reverse order.

»Perpetual / To Fight Against The Tide«: The mind begins to be pulled down into the cycle. It knows what it has to deal with: when the pressure will be too much, when the collapse (»Drowning«) will show itself as inevitable. It wants to refuse all of it and retain lucidity, safety, breathing motion. But all it can do is to bear the weight of the present-moment pain and anticipate every return to come, perpetually.

»Prefácio«, the closing chapter, clocks in at more than 12 minutes, but is itself subdivided into 3 movements. »Prefácio« initiates the cycle while also cueing its continuation in its final part, connecting to the noise we heard and felt in »To Fight Against The Tide«.

The incredible Julia Rennhard has collaborated with us once again to create another stunning piece of art. “Plant” design is suited for t-shirts and totebags, in black and grey color combinations. You can pre-order these on Bandcamp right now; printing and shipping will happen in May.”
