Brazilian stoner/doom band Weedevil has unleashed new single »Profane Smoke Ritual«, available now on all major streaming platforms.
»Profane Smoke Ritual« is the first single and title track from Weedevil’s new full-length album, set to release on June 8th, 2024 via Smolder Brains Records and DHU Records.

Weedevil announced their new album, »Profane Smoke Ritual« which will be released this June through Smolder Brains Records (Mexico) on CD, a label that previously worked with the band on split EP, and DHU Records (Netherlands) on vinyl. Weedevil just released the first single and title track »Profane Smoke Ritual« this Friday.
The album »Profane Smoke Ritual« explores deep themes inspired by figures such as Crowley, the duality and liberation of Lilith and Baphomet, addressing spirituality, transcendence and mystery. The lyrics written by Flavio Cavichiolli (drummer and band leader) invite listeners to delve into their own reflections on existence and the meaning of life, seeking to inspire deeper thoughts and introspection.
According to the drummer, “I especially highlight the song »Profane Smoke Ritual«, which portrays a journey of spiritual liberation through rituals and experiences with cannabis smoke. This song reflects my own personal exploration of the connection between mind, body and spirit.”
He adds: “I hope the album’s lyrics resonate with listeners in a meaningful way, encouraging them to reflect more deeply on their own personal journeys.”
The recent change in the band’s lineup has brought renewed energy and a new creative dynamic to Weedevil. As a project that doesn’t stick to a single style, the band has always been open to experimenting with new sounds. With this new lineup, the band sought to add the weight of heavy metal to the essence of doom, resulting in a unique fusion of styles.
Flávio also spoke about the creation of the songs: “In Weedevil, my approach as a drummer is a little different. I usually start with creating the beat and atmosphere of the song and then the guitar comes in to complement that melody. My composition with the guitar is very intuitive and free, which brings a difference to our sound.”
He also talked about the musicians’ performance; “Jimmy’s participation on guitar was fundamental on this album. We established a very quick creative connection, which contributed significantly to the sound and musical direction of the project. Each member of the band brought their own unique contribution, with Henrique bringing the heavy riffs, Cláudio incorporating the depth of the bass and Poison’s vocals adding a special touch, inspired by bands like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Candlemass.”
The art made by Lie Design for the cover of the album »Profane Smoke Ritual« combines elements inspired by the philosophy of Aleister Crowley, known for ritual practices and the use of psychoactive substances, with visual references from Greek paintings dedicated to Dionysus and the rituals of the Bacchae. This fusion creates a symbolic representation of the connection between the divine and the earthly, addressing themes of spirituality, mystery and liberation.
»Profane Smoke Ritual« was produced by Diego Rocha and Carlos Abreu at Bay Area Studio. The mixing and mastering is being done by Diego Rocha.
