Ahead of the November 7, 2025 release of »Gigantes Mortui« via Hypnotic Dirge Records, Canadian doom metal band Norilsk presents a third preview from their upcoming live rehearsal album. The newly shared track, »Ghosts Of Loss«, first appeared on the 2017 album »Le passage des glaciers«, originally featuring Pim Blankenstein (Officium Triste) as a guest vocalist.
Having performed »Ghosts Of Loss« on stage for several years, the band highlights how this live version incorporates new arrangements and a different energy shaped by years of performance. The track sheds light on the song’s progression, now captured in the live environment that defines »Gigantes Mortui«.
To accompany the release, a video has been put together by frequent collaborator Erik Labossiere (analog-spectre.ghost.io), featuring a collage of recent live photos. Erik’s long-time involvement with Norilsk continues as he supports the visual side of the new album.

Photo credits for the video include André Corriveau, Axis Photography Co., Guylaine Degregorio, and Simon Bouchard.
»Gigantes Mortui« will be available on CD, digital, and a limited cassette edition (exclusively through the band). Pre-orders are open through both Hypnotic Dirge and Norilsk’s own Bandcamp.

»Gigantes Mortui« celebrates Norilsk’s first ten years with new live-in-the-room versions of songs from across the catalogue, recorded with the stability and chemistry of the current line-up. Tom Hansen and Matt MacIvor joined in 2016 and 2017, and the band revisited its discography to re-arrange material with the live feel these tracks have gained on stage. The result presents their atmospheric death doom songs with an immediate and organic sound.
The tracklist spans early material and later highlights. »Ghosts of Loss«, first heard on the 2017 album »Le passage des glaciers«, has evolved through years of live performances. The closing piece, »No Sacred Ground«, is described by the band as an homage to the pilgrims of doom, the artists and listeners who travel to the heart of underground live music. Physical editions will include a very limited CD in a four-panel digipack and a Maltese cross deluxe cassette.
Recorded by Simon Bouchard.
Mixed and mastered by Topon Das at Apt 2, Ottawa.
