Ottawa/Gatineau, Canada based doom/death metal band Norilsk has just released their new live album »Gigantes Mortui« on November 7th, 2025 via Hypnotic Dirge Records.
Tracklist:
01. Beyond The Horizon
02. Potsdam Glo
03. Ghosts Of Loss
04. Le puits de l’oubli
05. La liberté aux ailes brisées
06. No Sacred Ground
Norilsk comments: “Release day! »Gigantes Mortui« is officially out. This is our first and only album recorded live in our rehearsal space, to mark the first decade of the band. We hope you enjoy these new versions of older songs as much as we enjoyed revisiting them.
Thanks to Simon Bouchard for recording the album, and Topon Das and Apt 2 for mixing and mastering it.
The last song on this album is »No Sacred Ground«. This song is an homage to pilgrims of doom: artists and fans who travel long distances to the holy land of underground live music. This is another song which was subject to a few arrangements over the years. On the original version, released in 2018 on the album »Weepers Of The Land«, we had Damien Smith from Altars Of Grief trading vocals with us.
Enjoy this season of doom everyone.”

Courtesy of Against PR:
»Gigantes Mortui« celebrates Norilsk’s first ten years with new live-in-the-room versions of songs from across the catalogue, recorded with the stability and chemistry of the current line-up. Tom Hansen and Matt MacIvor joined in 2016 and 2017, and the band revisited its discography to re-arrange material with the live feel these tracks have gained on stage. The result presents their atmospheric death doom songs with an immediate and organic sound.
The tracklist spans early material and later highlights. »Ghosts of Loss«, first heard on the 2017 album »Le passage des glaciers«, has evolved through years of live performances. The closing piece, »No Sacred Ground«, is described by the band as an homage to the pilgrims of doom, the artists and listeners who travel to the heart of underground live music. Physical editions will include a very limited CD in a four-panel digipack and a Maltese cross deluxe cassette.
