The second full-length from Canada’s own Earth Altar is ready for atmospheric re-entry. The Kjipuktuk (Halifax, Nova Scotia) based band will release »Hawk And Swan« on September 4th with Black Throne Records.
A thick, nebulous mix of heavy, psychedelic, and electronic sounds carries themes of human history, story-telling, and mythos.
The thunderous, bombastic drumming of Jon MacIsaac leads, informs, and compliments the atmospheric, heavy basslines of Spencer Trout; which together paint a sonic picture of human imagination and curiosity.
Building on the 2023 release of the »Inter Terra Solis« split with Ontario’s Sun Below, Earth Altar continues their journey into the boundless realms of human experience.

About »Hawk And Swan«:
Earth Altar began writing »Hawk And Swan« nearly four years before its release, using the record to expand on the limitations and possibilities of working as a two-piece.
“We began writing this record almost four years ago, while exploring and expanding our sounds as a two-piece,” says Jon MacIsaac.
“Jon and I always see how far we can take it, then dial it back one notch,” adds Spencer Trout. “The songs are always growing, the structure always changing, and the meaning always deepening.”
“We challenged ourselves rhythmically and structurally, while adding interludes and creating space between songs,” MacIsaac explains.
The result is an eight-track record built around changing structures, rhythmic movement and the space between longer compositions. Short pieces including »Cyclic Path«, »Preluding Pendulums« and »Infatuating Levitation« sit between the album’s extended tracks, giving the record a connected, album-focused structure.
About Earth Altar:
Formed in Halifax during 2020, Earth Altar brought Jon MacIsaac and Spencer Trout together through a shared interest in heavy, progressive and psychedelic music.
Drawing from Pallbearer, YOB, Rush and Pink Floyd, the duo developed around flowing song structures, dense arrangements and the interaction between drums, bass and synthesizers. Since forming, Earth Altar have toured across Canada, connecting with bands throughout the country’s stoner rock, doom and underground heavy music scenes.
»Hawk And Swan« continues Earth Altar’s work as a two-piece while placing greater focus on rhythmic and structural changes, interludes and full-album sequencing.
The album will be released on vinyl and digital formats on September 4th through Black Throne Productions. Pre-orders due to ship mid-late August.
