Matador are an instrumental post-rock/metal band based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Their music blends heavy, driving and doomy post metal sounds with emotive, melodic and atmospheric post-rock influences.

The band formed in early 2020 when guitarist James and drummer Scott met after Scott heard Matador’s first EP online, which James composed & recorded himself. In the cold Vancouver winter, as the world fell into a pandemic, the two began composing the 4 tracks that constitute Matador’s dramatic 2nd EP, »The Surge«. After finally finding bass player Mark the trio set to work meticulously refining their music.

»The Surge« constitutes four tracks that showcase the band’s powerful and dynamic cinematic style. Hypnotic doomy riffs, intense thunderous drums and driving bass contrast with delicate ambience, soaring guitar parts and tribal rhythms. Matador’s sound is somewhat reminiscent of acts like Russian Circles, Sleep and Tool.

Live video recordings of the entire EP, recorded at Rain City Recorders, will also be available on YouTube.
