Tijuana Taxi is a three-piece noise rock/shoegaze band based in Toronto, Ontario (Canada). The group consists of guitarist and frontman Jim Ritchie, bassist Lucas Anderson, and drummer Ryan Caley.

Melding elements of modern psychedelia, post-rock, desert rock, and post-punk, Tijuana Taxi crafts a sound that’s as ethereal and melodic as it is heavy and disorienting. Originally formed in Ottawa in 2013 by Ritchie and Caley, the band relocated to Toronto and completed their lineup with Anderson in 2017. Their debut EP, »Paracusis«, released in 2019, earned modest acclaim and helped build a dedicated fanbase through consistent social media engagement and DIY promotion.

Mainstays of the Toronto underground music scene, Tijuana Taxi has spent the past decade delivering high-volume, high-energy performances as both headliners and support for international touring acts.

Written and recorded over nearly eight years, »Mirages« is a labor of love shaped by production setbacks, shifting creative visions, and a global pandemic. The debut LP, and follow up to their 2019 EP »Paracusis«, is a record that explores the disorienting blur of nostalgia, substance use, and the slow decay of time – not through a linear narrative, but through sound. The lyrics are surreal and metaphorical, offering fragmented impressions, while the music itself carries the emotional arc: a story of memory, detachment, and psychological unraveling.

Drawing influence from artists like The Verve, Weed, Boris, American Football, and Interpol, »Mirages« traverses a wide sonic spectrum. It moves from dense shoegaze swells (»Slip Out«, »Mystified«) and midwest-emo introspection (»Looking At Air«) to lo-fi acoustic implosions (»Muck«) and melody-driven bursts (»A Voice To Follow«, »Wander/Mirages«). As the album progresses, it descends into sprawling, hypnotic territory, closing with the near-drone weight of »Sonder« and »Erasure«.

Produced and mixed by Jesse Turnbull (Tokyo Police Club, DoFlame, DEAR-GOD) and mastered by Jon Drew (METZ, Alexisonfire, Fucked Up), »Mirages« is a raw, immersive, and unflinching debut – the kind of record you get lost in without realizing how far you’ve drifted.
