Favna Abisal was founded in 2008 in Santiago, Chile, as an avant-garde metal band. Drawing inspiration from the haunting sounds and captivating imagery of the deep sea along the South American coasts, they skillfully blend a diverse range of influences, including black and doom metal, 70s progressive rock, and various other musical backgrounds.
In 2009, they introduced their musical vision with the demo »Nada es Real« (Nothing is Real), and in 2012, they unveiled their first full-length album titled »Rerum Imaginaria« through the esteemed Chilean label Australis Records. Garnering rave reviews, particularly from international media and websites like the German portal Avantgarde-metal.com, the album was hailed for its innovative musical approach, solidifying Favna Abisal’s position as one of the pioneering Avantgarde Metal bands from South America.
Continuing their exploratory journey, the band ventured into new sonic territories. In 2015, they released the single »Progresión Geométrica« (Geometric Progression), which embraced a sound closer to electronic and alternative rock, showcasing their versatility and artistic growth.
Following a brief hiatus, Favna Abisal regrouped to embark on fresh musical endeavors. In 2019, they unveiled the EP »Argonautas« (Argonauts), which marked a return to their heavier roots. This release skillfully incorporated elements of black metal and delved into captivating concepts derived from the literary works of Julio Verne, mythological voyages, and the captivating aesthetics of the Steampunk realm.
Presently, the band has just completed their highly anticipated new full-length album, »La Casa de los Siete Espejos« (The House Of The Seven Mirrors) in 2023. This conceptual work draws inspiration from historical facts and mythical tales originating from the vibrant port city of Valparaíso in Chile.
Delving deep into the depths of the human psyche through their thought-provoking lyrics, this album presents a sonic exploration that transcends traditional metal and rock boundaries, seamlessly fusing diverse musical styles. The boundless imagery of the sea, interwoven with captivating narratives and stories from different eras, provides an enchanting backdrop for their music, aesthetics, and enthralling live performances.
