In »Everlasting«, Ater augment their dark metal sound to incorporate elements from goth and doom. The band do not abandoned their ferociously extreme roots, rather they expand it into emotional, melodic realms with a stylistic shift in the structure of their compositions. »Everlasting« is scheduled to release on January 29, 2027, via Torque Records.
»Everlasting« is structured as an anthology. While it is not specifically a concept album, each song is its own chapter within an overarching dark love story. Themes of manipulation and heartbreak encounter adoration and worship in a romance which begins with passion but soon turns sour.
Further to the evolving creative direction of Ater, the writing of the album also brought personal challenges for frontman Fernando Bühring in writing these songs and in developing his singing voice to enhance their new sound. “The songs were pouring out of me.” Bühring comments. “Once I had all the music written, the lyrics and themes started coming to me, as well as the title. It was all very natural, I just followed the feelings the music gave back to me and as always I poured a lot of my personal life and tribulations in there.”

»Everlasting« begins with an ode to the goddess herself, »Venus«. Ater deliver a crushingly heavy sound that sees a sensuality bleeding through the music. “Dark, ecstatic, ritualistic, and fatalistic: the lyrics express a rapturous, sacrificial union that is both beautiful and destructive.” In the album’s narrative, »Venus« sees our two lovers meet.
A monstrous courtship ensues in »When At Night«. An untamable brutality transpires through the track’s intense rhythms and devastating gutturals, contrasted with an eerie arrangement of clean vocals and harmonies. “A creature of super-natural characteristics confined to darkness expresses its immense desire for its prey: his woman of choice. She fears the danger but the attraction to it is stronger. After a midnight chase the creature and his beauty are finally united. As they entwine, the passion is so great that the gods themselves become envious.”
Destruction is at the core of »Heart Of Glass«. The track’s protagonist blindly worships his lover, only to endure great pain as his heart is shattered into pieces. He is left hoping for death and the relief it would bring. »Heart Of Glass« offers a somber and harrowing mood, with a slow and heavy sound, the weight is inescapable.
In »Neverlasting« is found mourning for lost love, the despair and grief of separation. Ater’s romantic metal ballad is infused with an enthralling quality amidst heavy dissonance. »Neverlasting« “is a twist to the album’s name, kind of a title track but using a synonym instead. Longing, dying hope and deep romanticism are embedded in these lyrics.”
Toxicity, control and submission await in this next chapter, »Make Me Bleed«. The protagonist who was broken down until he submitted to his lover, “becomes devoted to an ill and deceitful love and knowing she just wants to possess him, he remains willing to go to the end.”
In »Ketamine« »Everlasting«’s protagonist falls further into the depths of despair in the form of a spiraling depression. In an onslaught of aggressive rhythms and thundering percussion, Ater explore the ill-effects of an addictive form of love.
»Sleep« emerges in the form of a second heavy romantic ballad on »Everlasting«. The track’s pace is slower, allowing the heaviness to envelope before shifting into a serene moment comprised of clean guitar tones and vocals that bring a dreamy atmosphere. Struggling with his lover’s rejection, “the main character suffers insomnia and intrusive dreams caused by relentless longing and obsession that persists day and night.”
»With You Came The Winter« draws the album to its end. “This song symbolizes the cold winter as an emotional landscape. Abandonment and desolation; the departure of the true love leaves behind a vast void and emotional ruin. The main character remains suspended, in a state of paralysis, like frozen inside an iced lake.” The vast and bleak soundscape embraces the theatricality of »Everlasting«, seeing Ater’s sonic elements collide into a shadowy final form.
»Everlasting« was produced by Fernando Bühring and recorded at Torque Records. The album was mixed by Daniel Lancaster and mastered by Tony Lindgren (Fascination Street Studios). Travis Smith created the album cover artwork for »Everlasting«.
