Croatian experimental/alternative/noise rock band Mycena stream new album »Serendisarray«, out now via Olde Scratch Records

Koprivnica, Croatia based experimental/alternative/noise rock band Mycena (feat. Aleksandar Vrhovec from Grinded Grin) has just released their new album »Serendisarray« on April 4th, 2024 via Olde Scratch Records.

Mycena is an instrumental cult, a derivative of various musicians from Koprivnica, Croatia, ready for experimental improvisation. It currently consists of five musicians who are testing the limits of psychedelia through a somewhat fiercer sound and volume.

Spawned from the creative wellspring of the Croatian rock scene, Mycena is a conclave of artists who have been toying with and testing the boundaries of psychedelic rock since 2019. On their sixth album, »Serendisarray«, Aleksandar Vrhovec, Marin Mitić, and company stretch their creative vision to its furthest reaches yet.

In a show of topflight musicianship, the crew meld psych rock, prog, black metal, jazz, and more across seven tracks, creating an epic trip that’s equal parts serene and mind-boggling.

In the band’s own words:

“Mycena is a Croatian experimental rock collective. The idea originated from Aleksandar Vrhovec in 2019, who gathered the same crew to create the first four improvisational psychedelic rock albums. They concluded that era of the band with the release of the live album »Live At Funk« this year.

After this, Aleksandar continued to collaborate with Marin Mitić on the next album, working with various session musicians. This album was recorded in the studio over approximately ten sessions. On their most recent album, »Serendisarray«, they blended many musical styles, including prog rock, black metal, stoner, avant-garde, and, of course, psychedelic rock.

The album’s acrobatic shifting of tectonic plates through an experimental holograph of sound defies the contemporary sterility in music, and this undisciplined group of avant-gardists from Croatia create a ritual of cacophony that will disdainfully open all doors of perception.”
