Czech doom metal legends R.E.T. have just released 30th anniversary edition of their debut album »Depression« on November 29th, 2025 via Pařát Productions.

Between 1989-2024, R.E.T. was a band consisting of members mostly from Třinec, the second easternmost town in the Czech Republic, and its surroundings, close to the borders with Poland and Slovakia.

That is, from the Moravian-Silesian region, where a strong doom-metal base established itself in the mid-1990s, led by bands such as Dissolving Of Prodigy, Hypnotic Scenery or Silent Stream Of Godless Elegy. Although this period lasted only a few years, spontaneously emerged and just as spontaneously dissolved, it made an indelible mark in the history of the Czech (doom) metal scene.

Even though R.E.T.’s music was primarily associated with doom metal since the mid-1990s, the band’s goal was always to achieve a wide-spanning musical range and not be directly bound by ranks or any kind of classifications. This was most strongly reflected in the expression of singer Yarin, who always knew how to include mood and sadness, while he turned his voice more often higher than lower. They were also no strangers to female vocals, which they always wanted to have on their recordings.

The recording »Depression«, with which R.E.T. first entered the chronicles of Czech doom metal and hard music in general in 1995 as their debut CD, was first released as a cassette demo without any ambitions. It was recorded already in 1993. No one expected where and how quickly things would move forward.

In 2019, R.E.T. decided to record their last album »Silence« (released in April of the same year on Pařát Productions) and to conclude their activity with two last concerts. As the announced last performance at the Gothoom festival didn’t happen due to an injury to the drummer, the veterans of the North Moravian doom metal scene of the 1990s returned several times over the following years to celebrate not only 35 years on the scene, but also their end in 2024.

This year’s digipak re-edition, 30 years later, contains 5 original tracks + 2 new ones from 2024, with which R.E.T. ended their career after 35 years.
