Phil May Grey was founded in 2016 as a solo project of guitarist and composer Phil May Grey, who collaborated with a wide range of musicians and released several singles that gradually shaped the project’s early identity. Around 2020, the project evolved into a fully formed band with vocalist Lukáš Mareček, drummer Adam Kment, and bassist Daniel Janoštík, leading to the release of the debut EP »Stretched« in 2022.

In 2024, the band followed up with their second EP »Mind«, created through a combination of analog and digital recording processes across several studios. The guitars were recorded analog under the supervision of Ben Konstantinidis with assistance from DJ Bussy (Martin Urbaňák). Drums and bass were captured analog at Studio Stopa, vocals were recorded at Studio Palba, and the final mix was handled by Ondřej Ježek. The mastering was done by Gargle & Expel, and distribution was handled by Moimir Papalescu via the MUSICCRAFT label.

After the release of Mind, vocalist Lukáš Mareček left the band, and David Janík, who had been involved in the very early stages of the project, returned as the new frontman. In this renewed lineup, Phil May Grey released the single »Stray«, mixed and mastered by Kakaxa of 3 Bees Studio. The track was included in Weedian’s »Trip To Czechia« project. Throughout this year, the band has focused primarily on studio work, rehearsing intensively for their first performance in the new lineup and completing their third EP, »Whispers«.
