Dee comments: “During Covid lockdowns I took a big interest in cigar box guitars. After picking up a shovel guitar and a four-string CBG, I set my sights on a single-string diddley bow after seeing Seasick Steve playing one in a YouTube video. Within a couple of days after buying it, I wrote this little ditty about relying on yourself, and yourself alone (a theme I explored earlier in »Go To The Devil«’s »Me, Myself, And I«).

Accompanying me on the song are Louis Strachan (bass), Rob Calhoun (percussion), and the spreader of metal himself Dave Benzotti (backing vocals).

»An Old Mother, Live« was recorded at Olde Mother Brewing in Frederick MD on May 6, 2023. Dylan Hyman was the sound engineer and captured the performance with a combination of the soundboard recording and room microphones. It was a show that I played straight solo, with just voice, guitar, and harmonica. This was also one of the first live shows that featured songs from Old Scratch Comes to Appalachia, which was still over a month away from release.
