Doomed Confessionary: Andrey Tollock (Sunset Forsaken)

Sunset Forsaken is a melodic doom/death metal solo project from Donetsk, Ukraine.

Founded in 2014 by Andrey Tollock, Sunset Forsaken is releasing third studio album »Novembryonal Echoes« on April 4th, 2024 through SoundAge Productions.

Somewhere between heartbreaking gloom and depression, which should captivate fans of early Paradise Lost, October Tide, Swallow The Sun, Draconian, Saturnus and Insomnium.

Can you say a few words about your band?
Hi! My name is Andrey Tollock, and my project is called Sunset Forsaken and I represent melodic doom/death. I am the only member of the band. The project originated in 2014, but was really able to come to life only in 2018 with the debut album release »Chameleon Waters«. At the current moment, the project’s discography includes three albums: »Chameleon Waters« (2018), »85 Nerves« (2020) and »Novembryonal Echoes« (2024).

What was the biggest challenge for the band last year?
The biggest challenge was to finish the third album recording. A little bit later, the search for a label for the album release was added to the challenge.

What can you be most proud of so far?
Quite a difficult question…The only thing I can be proud of is that the project still exists and has the definite plan to move on and to compose more brand new musical stuff.

What was your biggest regret?
In general, personally for me, the biggest regret is that most of the labels and print media that I turn to for music submission or for review, simply ignore my letters. Sorry for the arrogance, but I don’t consider my music to be mediocre. It deserves a little more.

What was the best concert/tour last year and why?
The matter is that Sunset Forsaken is a studio project only. I play all instruments myself and there are no session musicians and live line-up here. It’s really hard to find adherents. At least, in my region.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
The biggest surprise remains the Great Metal School of the 90’s when a lot of metal classics did appear!

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Personally, I try to keep an eye on new releases. Right now I am listening to »The Quantum Phase« – the brand new album by The End Machine – the George Lynch’s of Dokken new project. I’m also planning to listen to the new releases by Necrophobic, Vltimas and Whom Gods Destroy.
As for the immortal metal classics in the form of albums that I periodically listen to, there are a great many of them and it makes no sense to list them.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
The main plan is to release more music, of course. But, in general, making plans is not the best strategy, because life and everyday problems very often make their own adjustments to my plans. Therefore, I continue to compose music, and as soon as I feel that what I have composed is ready for recording, I will certainly go to the studio to follow the master plan.

How can people best support your band?
The best way is to listen to my music and share it with friends, to buy the merch, to follow my social networks, where we can discuss all the music nuances that concerns Sunset Forsaken. I suppose that would be enough for a while.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
I wish them to be honest, sincere and true! Take care!
