Doomed Confessionary: Andrey Ulyakin (Derelicted)

Derelicted is a melodic doom death metal solo project by Andrey Ulyakin, based in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
After one single and three EPs, Derelicted dropped a brand new song »Upon The Airy Towers« in February 2024.
Can you say a few words about your band?
Hi, the band Derelicted was founded in Germany in 2020. This is a one-man project, occasionally I invite guests to perform on records, but mostly I make everything myself (except the lyrics, my wife helps me a lot to write this one). Actually founded as an instrumental project, after the first single I decided to add vocals, so the band plays doom death with progressive elements.
What was the biggest challenge for the band last year?
To produce the last EP »No Answering Voice«. I wanted to make the full-length album, but it took quite a bit time (2.5 years) to make 3 songs, so it was released as EP.
What can you be most proud of so far?
All of my works that I published. I’ve spent the bunch of time to write, record and mix them, that these records became for me very important.
What was your biggest regret?
Hah, it was drums. In the case where I made the drums without a session drummer (programmed drums), it sounded artificial. On »No Answering Voice« was used programmed drums and the feedback I’ve got shows me that it’s the weakest point in this record.
What was the best concert/tour last year and why?
It’s a studio project, so I cannot say.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
In general, that I’ve found Ethereal Wave genre. It’s kinda gothic and doom stuff but not as heavy as metal, sometimes ethereal comes with goth rock, so it’s a good mix of both genres.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Doom death, death, MDM, ethereal, some classic music and some other genres. I’m heavily influenced by 90’s music, so the bands like The 3rd And The Mortal, Ebony Tears, October Tide (first 2 albums!), Dusk, Decoryah are the way to go.
Can you say something more about the music scene in Gelsenkirchen?
I have no idea at all.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
I think there’s no chance to see me live, this is the studio project.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Gain the fanbase, buy the drumset and release the full length album. Also I have plans to release »No Answering Voice« EP on CD this year and maybe in 2-3 years remix (and additionally record bass and drums) the first single »Cataclysm«.
How can people best support your band?
Leave the comments, subscribe to YouTube and Bandcamp. If you like my music, you can also purchase the records. I really appreciate these things.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
As I said, I’m planning to release the CD (and maybe tapes) for »No Answering Voice«. Also there’s no exact date when I’ll release the first album, but it will be in 3-5 years. I want to thank all of the people that supported the band on Bandcamp and also left the comments on YouTube and thanks Bojan for this interview!
