Doomed Confessionary: Andy, Anaïs, Nathan, Dan & Kacper (Domhain)

Hailing from Northern Ireland, Domhain consists of four experienced musicians from the Irish metal scene: Andy Ennis (vocals, bass), Anaïs Chareyre-Méjan (drums, vocals, cello), Nathan Irvine (guitar), Daniel Dempster (guitar), and Kacper Lewandowski (guitar).
Domhain is a band that blends an emotional mix of post-black metal, blackgaze, and atmospheric black metal, featuring distinctive vocal harmonies and cello. Their debut EP, »Nimue« (October 2023, These Hands Melt), showcased their long-form songs filled with myths and remembrances, also features guest cello by Jo Quail.
Following their debut, they released the split EP, »Of Pine And Oak« (May 2025), with labelmates Ephemeral, which the band described as “an ode to nature”.
Domhain’s debut album, »In Perfect Stillness«, was released on February 20th, 2026 via These Hands Melt. The album was produced by Domhain and Chris Fielding (Conan, Primordial). Engineered and mixed by Chris Fielding at Foel Studio, and mastered by Mike Lamb (Remina, Sojourner).
Can you please say a few words about your band?
We are a post/atmospheric black metal band from Northern Ireland, signed to Italian label These Hands Melt. We started this band in 2021 with the simple aim of playing black metal together, but our music rapidly evolved towards things that were new to us, especially harmonised clean singing and cello, but also violin, piano, synth… This band has become the place where we push our boundaries and get out of our comfort zone musically and artistically.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Probably the fact that we are based in Ireland, and that touring outside of it costs us a lot financially. We depend on the generosity of our fans, buying our merch and supporting us.
What can you be most proud of so far?
We are very proud of our new and first album »In Perfect Stillness«, proud of how it sounds and how it looks. Creating together has been amazing so far.
What was your biggest regret?
Probably not starting this band sooner!
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
That’s very hard to pick, we loved to tour with our friends from Saor and Cann Bard in the UK, we loved to play Fortress Festival in Scarborough and Cernunnos Pagan Festival in France. Amazing crew, crowd, friends and venues, and amazing experience on stage!
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
We really follow our heart when we create our music, and it is quite strange when you keep experimenting together, when each person brings their own influences… the music just becomes something you were not expecting, so we didn’t know if people were going to like it. The success of our EP and album really astonished us. Sometimes people reach out, after gigs or on social media, to tell us about how they experience our music, how it made them feel, how it helped them go through some difficult moments of their lives, and this is the most amazing surprise we could hope for.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Too many, but to name a few: the latest Karnivool, Winterfylleth, Blackshape, Sgàile, Glen Hansard (RIP).
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
To never give up. Many of us have pushed to become better musician when joining Domhain, Andy developed his clean vocals, Nathan picked up violin (only the most difficult instrument one could choose), Anaïs learned to sing while playing drums and picked up the cello. There was a lot of cacophony when we started this… But we didn’t give up, we encouraged each other, we improved. The goal is not to become “the best”, the goal is to become as good as we need to be, in order to produce the music we have inside us.
What are your guilty pleasures?
A good few of us are into Fantasy, books, video games, films… but we are certainly not feeling guilty about it 😉
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Belfast?
We are lucky to have a very rich music scene in Ireland. Recently the Fleadh festival was hosted in Belfast (the World festival of Irish culture) we were amazed to see so much music in the streets, so many talented young people, so many families playing music and dancing together.
In terms of metal, we have a lot of amazing local bands of all types, great venues, promoters and sound engineers. Music is alive and well!
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We have gigs in Poland (Warsaw/Krakow) in September, followed by Wales (Bristol, Cardiff, Swansea), and Dublin in December. We are also delighted to go back to Paris to play Cernunnos Pagan Festival 2027 in February! All info on our social media.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
The Domhain family got bigger recently as two amazing guitarists joined us, Dan Dempster and Kacper Lewandowski, and we cannot wait to start writing together.
How can people best support your band?
Definitely by purchasing our merch and coming to our shows. Everything depends on this to us, we could not have afforded the creation/recording/mixing of our first album without the incredible support of our fans.
