Doomed Confessionary: Ariel, Justin & Andrew (Sloth)

Sloth is a stoner/doom/heavy psych power trio from Los Angeles, California. Inspired by the horror and macabre with a heavy dose of lysergic 70’s attitude, Sloth worships at the fuzz altar of bands such as Black Sabbath, Electric Wizard, Sleep, Windhand, and Wicked Lady. Sloth offers their spells and incantations for your psychedelic sonic pleasures…
Following their self-titled debut album (2023), Sloth released new EP »Necromagicka« on March 21st, 2025 in digital format, while the UK label Doomshire Tapes is handling a cassette edition. The new EP includes 2 new songs and 2 live renditions of their old songs. They are long, heavy, psychedelic, and encapsulate our signature 70’s boogie occult acid freakout style during their high-energy live concerts.
Sloth are Ariel Pang (guitars, Vocals), Justin Wan (bass) and Andrew Ahn (drums, percussion).
Can you say a few words about your band?
Ancient greetings, Doomed Nation. We are Sloth. A heavy psychedelic acid doom power trio from Los Angeles, CA. We like to play grooved out funeral music that takes you on a long trip.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
One of the biggest challenges for the band was solidifying our sound and line-up. Sloth started as a solo project in 2017 and remained that way until around 2022. After a year or so of jamming and line-up changes, Sloth eventually evolved into this present-day power trio. It’s been a long and challenging journey but we are happy with the current sound we’ve grown into.
What can you be most proud of so far?
We are most proud of simply being able to play music we love. We are eternally thankful that we get to be great friends in a band together that has the opportunity to spread heavy music to you all.
What was your biggest regret?
Not being alive through the 60’s and 70’s to catch some legends on stage.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
All of our live shows are very meaningful to us. But, we played this one show at the Old Towne Pub in Pasadena, CA last year that was absolutely amazing. We had the opportunity to share the stage with some other heavy friends/bands, there was this amazing liquid light projection, the big crowd was packed with more friends and family, and our set was dialed in! We couldn’t ask for anything better.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Just how supportive everyone is. When we started this band, we never could have imagined that people would like it. But the scene noticed us and has been so supportive. We are so grateful we get to make true connections with people from across the world through rock n roll and doom.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Black Sabbath, Electric Wizard, Messa (live @Nantes), Iron Claw, Witchfinder General, Motörhead, Wizard Master, Helter Skelter, Dusk, and all of the Füneral Division bands.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
“Fuck it. Play every note like it’s your last. And if you’re scared you’re going to miss, fuck it and go for it. Miss BIG! No one gives a shit.”
What are your guilty pleasures?
Copious amounts of horror movies and the Devil’s lettuce.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Los Angeles?
Los Angeles is a city of black minds. Beneath all the glitz and glamour is an underground culture of heavy music that pushes back. The heavy doom scene that’s flourished among this environment isn’t too big but has a feeling of comadre and commiseration. Everyone tries to support each other.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We’ll be playing at the Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, CA on May 22nd. Bay Area/NorCal fanatics will be able to catch our live magick for the first time. We also have some exciting shows booked for the Summer. Stay tuned for those announcements…
What are your plans for the future as a band?
To release a new full length album, play as many shows as we can, and to burn it all down.
How can people best support your band?
Our music is available for your sonic pleasures on all streaming platforms. You can also buy our merch on our Bandcamp. We also take blood sacrifices.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Play LOUD & HIGH. Legalize Drugs and Murder. And hail the Füneral Division.
