Doomed Nation

Sounds For The Lost Generation

Doomed Confessionary: Basti (Doghag)

Doghag is a three-piece sludge/hardcore/punk band from Munich, Germany. Founded in 2018, Doghag consists of Thomas (guitar, vocals), Basti (bass) and Dominik (drums).

The band just released their first full-length album »Hatred Blues« on May 11th, 2025 in digital format with vinyl edition coming soon through Zann’s Records.

All songs written and performed by Doghag. Recorded and mixed by Markus Matzinger at Doom Studios, Linz (Austria). Mastered by Roland “Role” Wiegner at Tonmeisterei, Oldenburg (Germany). Layout and design by Doghag.

Can you please say a few words about your band?
Thomas (guit./voc.) started it all around 2018 in a changing line-up and since March 2022 we make music in the current constellation. We all used to play in different bands before and we got – despite our different tastes in music (from country to tech-death metal) – a great overlap to make this work. It’s always difficult to describe the exact genre. There are definitely big influences from sludge metal, hardcore punk and noise rock. We call it “Hatred Blues”.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
It was hard to find a new drummer, after the previous one left the band. We rehearsed and jammed with a pretty shitty freeware drum computer for 6 months. But thats pretty much it, things went well.

What can you be most proud of so far?
First of all, it seems that there are some people enjoying what we’re doing and that’s great.
Another big thing for us: The release of our first full length album, digital and soon on vinyl.
And we have the honor to support the incredible EyeHateGod at their show in Munich.

What was your biggest regret?
That’s a tough one. Of course there are things each of us would do different now, but you’re always smarter afterwards. I think there are always reasons, why people do things (or not) at a certain point of time and as long as you can explain why you did something, there’s nothing to regret. Just gotta deal with the consequences.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Also hard to say. Every show is different and as long as we’re enjoying ourselves on stage and there are at least 3 persons in the audience, its always fun to play live.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
That there are actually people who like our music 😉 Thank you all!!!

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Seems like the Top 3 albums at this week are »Aversion« by Antilopen Gang, »Ode To The flame« by Mantar and »Witchcult Today« by Electric Wizard.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
“Don’t do want you want, do want you can.”

What are your guilty pleasures?
Quizshows (makes you feel smart), Mon Cherie-Chocolate, country music, online gaming.

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Munich?
There are a few venues for great live concerts in and around Munich, especially for underground bands and some crews organizing shows. Also great bands are located here, but compared to the size of the city it’s not much going on. You mostly see the same faces at shows, which is cool and shows the unity, but also speaks for the small size of the local scene. It’s also pretty hard to organize shows with a shitload of requirements and regulations Munich is famous for.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
At this point the next shows are at 11th June 2025 with EyeHateGod in Munich and at 25th July 2025 at Free and Easy Festival with Marod, Raging Sloth and Hidas. There are some more gigs planned, but not yet confirmed.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Writing music, playing shows, releasing albums and keeping passion for music.

How can people best support your band?
If you enjoy it, come to our shows and feel free to get our album and other releases at doghag.bandcamp.com and show it to your friends and neighbors by playing it loud for minimum 4 hours every day 😉

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Take care of each other and support your local music scene! (Pretty generic, I know, but that’s what its all about)
