Scorbut is a three-piece stoner/doom metal band hailing from Montreal, Canada. The trio consists of Benjamin Masson (bass, vocals), Loric Harton (guitar), and Mathieu Desgroseilliers (drums, backing vocals).
Scorbut layers dense, slow-tempo doom metal elements with aggressive sludge energy and stoner rock textures. Their lyrics and aesthetic proudly lean into their French-Canadian heritage, injecting localized themes into a wall-of-sound production.
Scorbut’s debut album »Vacarme« was released in January 2026, featuring tracks like »Montréal Parano« and »17 Octobre 1970«, as well as earlier material like »Merlin’s Weed«. »Vacarme« is available now on cassette and all major digital streaming platforms.
Can you please say a few words about your band?
Hey! We are called Scorbut and we are from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The band’s been active for a little more than 3 years and we are currently working on our second studio album. Our first album is heavily inspired by doom and stoner bands like Electric Wizard, Sleep and Conan, but we are working on changing things up a bit on the second LP. We are for sure keeping the doom influences, but are gonna experiment on a more psych and punk sound.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
As a french speaking band, it can be really difficult to have a big following. Even if Quebec is bilingual, the English speaking bands/music is always gonna be more popular and have a better reach. So the big challenge for us is to make a name for ourselves as a French speaking band and reaching the English crowd by making crazy instrumental tracks that breaks the language barrier.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
In September 2024, we did an outdoor show under a bridge in Montreal. It was fucking insane! So much people showed up and the energy from the crowd was crazy. It’s one of the heaviest set we ever done in front of the best/biggest crowd we’ve had. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve had some really sick show since then, but that one is gonna be in our heart forever.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
For me, (Ben, bass and voice) there’s a lot of punk and Midwest like Drunk Mums and Oakwood, but also a fair bit of garage psych like Fuzz or Ty Segall. For Lo, our guitarist, it’s mostly psych bands, like Slift, Thee Oh Sees or Population II. Our drummer Vic is a die hard fan of Led Zep and Angine de Poitrine. I think it’s that musical diversity that’s gonna make our second album sound different from anything else.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
“Fuck what the others think, do what you really want to do.” And that’s what we did! We wanted to make stoner doom in french and we started a band. Our tones, our image, our lyrics and our style are all things we create by ourselves, for ourselves.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Montreal?
The scene in Montreal is one of the best. There’s always a show or a DIY event going on, every day of the week, all year around. The crowds are always energic and the people are so nice. There are tons of band of every style imaginable here, so you don’t have an excuse to don’t go to shows. The city is full of sick bars/venues that makes Montreal’s night life one of a kind.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
For this year, our run of shows is unfortunately over. We went on a mini tour to test out new material and the feedback is good, so it’s time to sit back and work on the next album. If everything goes according to plan, we should be back on the stage next Spring!
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Once the new album done, we want to do a big album release show in Montreal and start a tour in a couple city in Quebec, but also in Ontario. That’s the plan for 2027, after that, who knows.
How can people best support your band?
Comming to our shows is really the best way to support us. We also have merch (+ new merch drop with the second album) to sell on Bandcamp and at our shows, that’s also a good way to finance our future shenanigans. Also, share our music, even if you don’t really like it, support the local culture!
