Doomed Confessionary: Benjamin (Tehom)

Photos by Adrien Aymes

Tehom is a doom metal band from Paris, France. Formed in 2022 as a two-piece, the line-up now consists of Benjamin (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Jean-Michel (guitar), Jean-Baptiste (bass) and Maxime (drums). Tehom released their debut EP »Behind The Mist« on August 29th, 2024.

In Genesis, Tehom refers to the depths and the endless abyss preceding the final Creation. The band’s heavy riffs and bewitching melodies are an invitation to explore these dizzying depths. Because of the different backgrounds of each member, Tehom music cannot be categorised in one specific genre, although experiencing the heavy grooves and fuzz shaped riffs will help you understand the singular doom identity of the band.

Can you say a few words about your band?
We’re a band from Paris that started with just two members: Jean-Michel (guitarist) and me. Initially, we aimed for a stoner vibe, but when Jean-Baptist (bassist and our main composer), a longtime friend of mine, and Maxime (drummer) joined, we gradually transitioned toward a doom metal style.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
The classic challenge for every band: conflicts! I’m familiar with managing conflicts since I work in leadership. We don’t have a formal leader, so we’ve learned to share responsibilities. That’s made things work smoothly now.

What can you be most proud of so far?
We’re proud to announce our first tour! Three concerts, including one with Khirki, which is huge for us.

What was your biggest regret?
Personally, it’s not starting to sing earlier. I only began seriously at 30, along with voice coaching… It feels late, but I’m proud of how far my voice has come.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Still waiting for that first concert experience!

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Blood Incantation blew my mind with their 2024 release. That album is simply incredible!

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
I’m all over the place: post-metal (Russian Circles), sludge (Acid Bath, High On Fire), death prog (Opeth, Blood Incantation), and, of course, lots of doom bands!

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
“A singer is lazy.” Never force your vocal cords – pushing too hard will only injure you. I once saw a slam metal vocalist destroy their throat mid-show due to bad technique. Don’t do that.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Eating a good meal, like Japanese curry. I have a soft spot for Asian food 😉

Can you say something more about the current music scene in your city?
Paris has an increasing number of heavy doom metal bands emerging. Witchorious, for example, put on an inspiring, high-energy show this year.

Where can we see you live soon (concerts/tours)?
Catch us in France in 2025:
• January 21st in Paris at La Pointe Lafayette
• January 25th in Lille at Le Bidule
• March 22nd in Châlons-en-Champagne at 1001 Bières.
We hope to book more shows soon!

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We aim to release our first album in 2025 while continuing to book more shows.

Did you have any special plans for New Year’s Eve?
I was hosting a metal party with friends at home in Paris.

How can people best support your band?
Spread the word about us, help us book gigs (we love sharing our music and energy), and grab our merch, especially our T-shirts!

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Take care of yourselves in these strange and complex times.
