Doomed Confessionary: Bo Mortensen (BeCursed)

BeCursed is a doom/black/death metal band from Bornholm (Denmark), formed in the very late summer of 2020. They just released their second full-length album »The Seers Dream« on November 25th, 2024. Available now on all major streaming platforms!

BeCursed consists of Finn Boyens on vocals, Daniel Svendsen on guitar, Pestilens on bass and Bo Mortensen on drums.

Can you say a few words about your band?
Emerging from the shadowy shores of Bornholm, Denmark, BeCursed delivers music as a monolithic force in the realm of doom/black/death metal. Our highly obscure and heavy style features metal music steeped in themes of death, darkness and northern mythologi, channeling the spirit of the dark underground scene. We unite crushing riffs, haunting atmospheres and a visceral energy, conjured into a sonic abyss where death and doom collide. We endeavor that every track is a tribute to our craft, balancing unyielding brutality with eerie melodies that will leave you awestruck and trampled into submission.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Much promotion of music today takes place online, and for a new band it’s hard to get a foot in, and it’s very easy to disappear in the crowd. Especially in DK, and even more when you live on a little island as Bornholm.

What can you be most proud of so far?
We are very proud of our newest album »The Seers Dream«. In fact we are so proud of it we have become fans of our own music. On this album we didn’t comprise at all with our own tendencies, and we really believe in ourselves and the art we are creating.

What was your biggest regret?
NO REGRETS, we love what we do, and we do what we love.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Best concert was our last concert. We did a show together with HEXIS where we performed our new album »The Seers Dream« in it’s full length. A celebration of the album release a few days earlier, and our performance really lived up to our own expectations that evening.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Hmm, I would say that the biggest surprise is that venues in general often do not appreciate the profession as a musician.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Everything in between Cattle Decapitation to Satyricon to Septic Flesh. We were kids in the eighties, so metal music has followed us through life. Since we are Danish I can mention King Diamond and Metallica (Lars Ulrich), but we also listen to old school metal such as Venom and Mayhem.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Believe in yourself. The long journey it is to reach where we are today as musicians takes many years of diligence and training. It all comes from our love to the darkness which transforms into our art today.

What are your guilty pleasures?
The only guilty pleasures we have is our tendencies to be slightly naive, because of our love to the music. The focus in BeCursed lies in the art inside out and not outside in.

Can you say something more about current music scene on Bornholm?
Poor and bourgeois. Driven by a few zealots.

Where can we see you live soon (concerts/tours)?
At the time of this writing we are going to perform a show in Roskilde, Denmark at a local metal venue called Obsene, and later this year we are playing at Metal Magic Festival in Fredericia, which we are looking very forward to.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Definetively to perform more live shows and harvest the recognition we deserve.

Do you have any special plans for New Year’s Eve?
Absolute none.

How can people best support your band?
The best way to support us, is to emerge at our live shows, and to follow us on miscellaneous platforms online.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
We really hope that our music bring the same atmosphere to our listeners as it does to ourselves.
