Doomed Confessionary: Bub, Theodore, Ted & Patrick (Black Sasquatch)

Hailing from the caves and such of South-Eastern Ohio comes Black Sasquatch, rising from the ashes of Brewed In Ohio after a 15-year hiatus.

Bub (vocals, guitar), Ted Wilson (bass), Theodore Charles Hall (guitar) and Patrick “Priors” Pryor (drums) took over an abandoned trailer in 2018 and started writing and recording music together again.

Their EPs »The Triangle« and »Believe« are available from INC Records and all streaming platforms. The new 2024 singles »Wizard« and »Temple« are streaming now everywhere. Their unique blend of rock, punk and metal will make a Believer out of you. Keep it Squatchy, y’all.

Can you say a few words about your band?
Black Sasquatch is a four-piece rock n roll band hailing from the caves and such of Ohio, USA. We play a genre-defying mix of rock, punk and metal we like to call Squatch-Rock.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Like most bands that went thru it, the pandemic hit us hard. First, our singer (Bub) got us all sick. Then all the venues were shut down for a while right when we were just getting started. Things have improved obviously, but the industry is still feeling the effects.

What can you be most proud of so far?
We have made two good EP’s since 2020 (»The Triangle« & »Believe«) and are currently working on our third, all on INC Records. We are making the best music we ever have, check out our two latest singles – »Temple« & »Temple«. We love playing shows and meeting our fans, The Believers. Y’all know who you are…

What was your biggest regret?
We missed some good show opportunities and getting to play with some bands we really admire. Also, so many venues have closed that we missed out on making it out to some we really wanted to. Thanks, Pandemic!

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Would have to say this past May in Columbus, Ohio at The King Of Clubs (Shout out to Ricky!) opening up for the legendary Psychostick. 700+ sold-out show with the whole place going crazy. We love shows like that!

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Kind of two-fold. First, that so many bands we have played with were so nice to us and treated us so graciously. Secondly, that not everybody is on your team and they have their own best interests at heart. The ‘Squatch loves everybody! Or at least we try…

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
KISS, Black Sabbath (no relation), Dio, Judas Priest, stuff we grew up on. We’ll throw in some Queen or Warren Zevon to shake things up a bit.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
To know your own worth as a band. Not to always be playing money-grab shows for sleazy promoters or free “exposure” type showcases. Nobody is getting rich out here, but just remember that your time and art is worth something.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Tecate, and smooth-drinking Tecate Light beer. The official beer of Black Sasquatch! Candy is also pretty high up on the list.

Can you say something more about the music scene in Nashport / Ohio?
It’s strong. We still need more venues though. So many talented bands around here that it really keeps us on our toes and focused to even be able to keep up. Can’t list them all, but SoHi, Audiocide, To Kill A Monster & Beyond Neptune are out here killing it.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We’ll be all over Ohio this Summer and Fall, with more dates to be announced soon. Some standouts will be Cleveland, Ohio July 6, Newark, Ohio August 24, and Columbus, Ohio September 7. Follow our socials for all the latest updates!

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We are working on our third EP and CD release that (Hopefully!) will be out later this Summer. There’s always more shows in the works but we usually knock off to hibernate-and get back in the studio-in December. Stay tuned!

How can people best support your band?
Try and catch a sighting and come out to a show! We love seeing faces both new and old. Follow us on social media @BlackSasquatch. Merch, CD’s and digital downloads are available on our Bandcamp.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Believe in yourself. Believe in Sasquatch. Believe that you’ll have another beer and listen to some Black Sasquatch. We love you all!
