Doomed Confessionary: Christian Lampa (Zoltar)

Zoltar is a three-piece doom/stoner metal band from Uppland, Sweden. Starting out as a local fuzz grinding project in Uppsala just before the pandemic, the lineup consists of Christian Lampa (bass, vocals), David Åberg (guitar) and Elias Karlstrand (drums).
Striving for a genuine, distorted rock sound with a fresh context, the trio brings in elements from Black Sabbath and Kyuss as well as more slugdy acts like Melvins.
Zoltar’s latest EP »Trollkarl« was released on December 17th, 2025 and is available for streaming on all major digital platforms.
Can you please say a few words about your band?
With roots in classic stoner rock and an eye towards the cosmos, Zoltar creates a heavy and hypnotic brew of riff-based psych rock. The band’s sound is raw, swinging and full of mystery – something that was cemented last winter with the release of their »Trollkarl« EP. Zoltar is a swedish trio with our roots from the north but lives and are based in Uppsala close to Stockholm.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
To have enough time and money for all the fun stuff we want to do. Write new music, design merch, record stuff, explore our sound, There is just not enough time.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Hm, thats a hard one but probably that we have lived though a few members that dropped and always come back stronger. We have so much fun together and our focus is just to have as much fun as possible. Im very proud that we have achieved that atm.
What was your biggest regret?
Oh, I don’t like to regret stuff. So I dont think we have anything.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Playing for a full Kaliber Room in Uppsala with both friends and family present. It’s an amazing scene and bar for live music. The sound is crazy good. We loved every second of standing on that stage.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
It’s probably how hard it is to just get a no. Most venues dont even answer. I have no problem getting a no, but the ghosting has been a real surprice. I get they dont have endless amounts of time to answer every email they get. But still, it’s a surprice for me.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Oh! Lately it’s been »Load« by Metallica. Was dissapointed when it came out but totally love it now. The subtle effects on the different instruments and how they really gave the songs their best production. And also a lot of Blood Incantation atm. Psych death metal is such an under rated genre. Love that shit!
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Just keep going. You can suck at what you do, but as long as you have fun, never give up. Keep going and aim for the fun.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Haha, in the band we love looking at ugly guitars and dream about owning them. Right now it’s the glitter iceman that Paul Stanley has. So ugly that it becomes beautiful.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Uppsala?
It’s a bit depressing here in Uppsala. Much better in Stockholm and Gothenburg. I’m not sure exactly what the problem is, but it’s just sad.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We are going on a mini-tour with Cavern Deep and Stammen in September. Otherwise a show here in Uppsala och Rökbacken in Falun. All Swedish venues.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Writing songs for our next EP. Got 2 of 3 songs done and want to play more live. Love it!
How can people best support your band?
Follow us on Instagram and buy our merch so we can afford to come to your city!
Do you have any message for your listeners?
“Watch me become a god.”
