Doomed Confessionary: Dennis Obermann (Plasmajet)

Plasmajet is a four-piece stoner/southern/groove metal band from Giessen, Germany. Formed in 2014, Plasmajet currently consists of Lars Grote (vocals, guitar), Dennis Obermann (bass), John Sourial (drums) and Jannick Berg (guitar).

Over the next four years, the band lit up the German music scene with over 40 electrifying performances, earning recognition through gigs at festivals like M.I.S.E. Open Air and as support for acts such as Bushfire and Earth Ship. Their 2018 self-released debut album, »United Dementia«, showcased their blend of heaviness, melody, and grit, earning acclaim from fans and critics alike.

Plasmajet recently signed with Octopus Rising / Argonauta Records to release their highly anticipated second album »Solastalgia« on March 14th, 2025.

Can you say a few words about your band?
We’re Plasmajet from Gießen, Germany. A four piece band playing some kind of stoner metal.
We startet roughly 10 years ago and have released our first record in 2018, the second one comes in March of this year!

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Finding two new members at the same time after both our guitarist and drummer quit in 2020. That took about two years.

What can you be most proud of so far?
Our new record »Solastalgia«. Everything done by ourselves except the final mix/master and the artwork. Shoutout Martin and Guckert! The record will be released in March via Argonauta Records.

What was your biggest regret?
That one gig years ago, not sober enough to play properly. Never again.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Two times a year we’re organizing a concert series called Stoner Night in our hometown. Next one will be number 16. Usually we invite four bands from around the country, sometimes we play as well. Regardless if we play or not, these concerts are always amazing.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
That there actually are some people interrested in what we are doing as a band or with the stoner night concerts. Still blows my mind 🙂

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Tom Bukovac – »Plexi Soul«, Converge – »Bloodmoon«, Bastardo – »Bastardo« and see guilty pleasures below 😉

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
“Spiel so, dass’s geil klingt!” – former bandmate on how to play AC/DC songs. Roughly translates to “Make it sound sick!” Thanks!

What are your guilty pleasures?
Listening to the Beach Boys. Those harmony vocals! Melts my heart 😀

Can you say something more about current music scene in Gießen?
Gießen is student city. It’s not huge but compared to its size there are lots of people playing all kinds of music. Thanks mostly to the KiG (Culture-initiative Gießen) which has been providing rehersal space and a meeting point for hundreds of musician. Also there is the university with its music department and a bunch of musicschools in the area.
So it’s a rather small but pretty diverse music scene.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Next up are:
14.03. Bonn, Session
15.03. Ahrensburg, Fuck-Cancer-Festival
05.07. Gößnitz, Trouid-Fest Open Air

There is more in the works, you can find us on the usual sites like Instagram or Facebook.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
More gigs and hopefully a proper tour. Writing new songs and propably another record.

How can people best support your band?
Come to concerts, buy merch or support us on Bandcamp: plasmajet.bandcamp.com/merch.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thanks for listening/reading and go to more local concerts. If there are none in your area start organising them!
