Doomed Confessionary: Eetu, Erno & Jim (Cosmic Redirection)

Cosmic Redirection is a stoner/doom/psych trio from Vaasa, Finland.

Founded in October 2023, Cosmic Redirection released their debut EP »Novis Oculis« on April 19th, 2024. Influenced by doom giant Electric Wizard and prog classic Kingston Wall, the three-song EP contains a big charge of fuzz, buzz and just the right amount of oriental spices sprinkled on top. Available now on all streaming platforms.

Cosmic Redirection are Erno Ahtilinna (guitar, vocals), Jim Gäddnäs (bass) and Eetu Hernesaho (drums).

Can you say a few words about your band?
The band was born a bit like its name, by “Cosmic Redirection”, a bit by accident, but clearly on purpose. Three complete strangers met and made their first song at their first practice session. (We also found out later that Eetu and Jim are cousins)

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Starting a band with new, unfamiliar people is always a risk, but strangers have become friends and we also spend time together outside the rehearsal room, so we think the worst challenges have been overcome.

What can you be most proud of so far?
There are many good reasons to be proud, but we are particularly proud of our first and latest release, »Novis Oculis«. The first riffs we played together ended up on this EP! We are also proud to be here, sharing our lives and playing together as friends.

What was your biggest regret?
Eetu: I’ve made some good song ideas, but used them with the wrong people, haha. And also some self related choices of course.
Erno: Biggest regret is wasting time but regret is a waste of time. I’m trying to focus in the present. No regrets.
Jim: Life is too short to be regretful since we can not change what already has been, only gain wisdom and develop further!

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We played in Vaasa, Finland in a small skate shop called “Barely Skate Shop” together with our friends band ELD the band where Jim also plays bass. Anyway, the atmosphere was tight and great, thanks to all of you who were there!

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
How interconnected people are after all. It’s easy to make new musician friends and contacts who enjoy the same genre of music.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Eetu: It’s always Electric Wizard.
Erno: Black Sabbath (mostly the earlier Ozzyer)
Jim: Coroner – »Mental Vortex«.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Eetu: Work on it, work on it. Forget the numbers and shit, do it for yourself as a therapy!
Erno: There are many. But one of the recent ones that actually hit me hard was: “Guitar playing is 50% philosophy 45% practice and 5% something else.” Usually we don’t really even know what we want. You can get guidence to a certain point. But ultimately you have to find your way by yourself by listening yourself.
Jim: Don’t compare yourself to others.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Eetu: I sometimes do mainstream pop hits on my computer and somehow I really enjoy it, haha.
Erno: Smoked noodles.
Jim: Shania Twain, as a matter of fact, I love her voice.

Can you say something more about the music scene in Vaasa?
There are many active and good bands in Vaasa and the surrounding area, but we need more events, more venues!

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Probably at least in Vaasa, Finland. but we have been in contact and planning gigs all over Finland and are waiting for confirmation of dates.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We are going to record new songs in a couple of weeks and our goal is to make a full-length album possibly in late autumn. PS: We are also looking for a label! 😉

How can people best support your band?
The best way to support is to buy a CD (e.g. from Bandcamp) share our songs on social media and tell promoters around the world about us! We’d love to play in new places!

Do you have any message for your listeners?
We want to thank our listeners/supporters, you are already around the world at this stage even though our story is just beginning!
