Doomed Confessionary: Gabriel Dubko (Daunt)

Daunt is a doom/sludge metal duo based in Bremen, Germany.
Daniel Notthoff and Gabriel Dubko began working on this band with other members during the pandemic, later on deciding to have fill in musicians for live shows. As the first album drops there’s a world of possibilities out there and a world to be conquered.
Daunt’s self-titled debut album was released on March 22nd, 2024.
Can you say a few words about your band?
Hi! This is Gabriel Dubko, guitar and vocals in Daunt from Bremen Germany. Daniel (guitars) and I come a long way and when he moved to Bremen we decided to start another new band after parting ways some years ago when we played in the grindcore band Implore.
Daunt is the reaffirmation of our musical chemistry and it’s a doom band with similar sound to bands like Conan, Windhand and Monolord.
What was the biggest challenge for the band last year?
Finding time to release the album and play shows, I also do vocals in Wormrot and that keeps me very busy. But since we are a new band we have no pressure and nothing to lose.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Our first album! We are really proud of what came out, sounds great, we like the songs, the artwork suits well. Everything came out good. We just released it digitally cause we had no budget to press it and no label showed interest.
What was your biggest regret?
No regrets so far!
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
No concerts so far! We are playing the first shows at the end of April.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
It’s always nice to be approached by people online complimenting our album and being added to playlists or being interviewed like now! We have no label, no promotion, no nothing so everything is welcome!
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Faetooth, Author & Punisher, Life On Venus, Sulphur Aeon, Unsane and Melvins.
Can you say something more about the music scene in Bremen?
Bremen has a strong scene, for such a small city with nothing really special has a nice punk and doom scene with a lot of shows and good bands.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
So far here, but there’s more coming:
25.04 AT Salzburg, Rockhouse
26.04 DE Würzburg, Immerhin
27.04 DE Bremen, Die Friese
28.04 BE Liège, La Zone
What are your plans for the future as a band?
We have a second album written, so basically playing more shows and recording the second album. Baby steps for now…
How can people best support your band?
Share our music if you like it, but our merch when we have it and come to the shows if we play near you!
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Support the small bands!
