Doomed Confessionary: Giorgio Trombino (Assumption)

It’s Friday, finally! The first interview for today… Let’s go!!!

Assumption is a doom death metal band with members from Italy and Slovenia. Their second album »Hadean Tides« (out May 20th, 2022) is available now in all formats via Everlasting Spew Records (EU) and Sentient Ruin Laboratories (USA).

Can you say a few words about your band?
Assumption was formed in Palermo, Sicily, Italy around 2011. We’ve released two albums, one mini album and one EP. No line-up changes except for our guitarist Matija stepping in with us full time in 2018. We do gigs whenever the situation is right. Please check out the net for exhaustive info about us.

What was the biggest challenge for the band this year?
It hasn’t been a busy year for Assumption, whereas it has been so for the four of us on individual levels. This band is a tough beast to take out on the road as we live in four different places, one far from the other, and two different countries. Even a single band practice requires a lot of planning.

What can you be most proud of this year?
Not much really eheh! I guess getting out to play one single gig is a matter of pride pride for us already.

What was your biggest regret?
I wish I could spend more time with the rest of the gang. Aside frome the music we play, they’re some of my best friends but long distances get in the way.

What was the best concert/tour this year and why?
Performance wise, I’d say our set at Bologna’s Heavy Psych Sound Fest was pretty much ok.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
I’m doing some guest recordings on a couple of very promising Italian projects you’ll hear about really soon!

Where can we see you live next year (concerts/tours)?
It’s very hard to tell right now. We’ve received a EU tour and a bunch of one-off gig proposals in the last few months but there was always some kind of issue with our schedules, so there’s nothing in the pipeline for us in the live domain. Bear in mind that we’re all super busy with a number of other bands, and each has its own release and/or gigging schedule, so we’re not able to focus on Assumption exclusively.

What are your plans for the next year as a band? What do you personally want the most?
We’ve got 30 minutes of brand new music that will eventually be released on our third album at some point, but to be honest with you, I can say that my mindset has changed a lot in the last couple of years, and I’m fine with whatever will happen to us. The release and logistics revolving around our second album »Hadean Tides« have been an excruciating pain in the ass, as it’s all been affected by a thousand annoying (if not unnerving) events. It’s taken us a LOT of dedication and perseverance to just let the album out. Right now we’re promoting our latest album with Bottomless, which is trad heavy doom; Claudio does many gigs with evil rockers Tenebra and Matija is in Siderean and Kamra, both pretty active bands. I’m also in Thysia, Shrieking Demons and Becerus, so we’re never truly kicking our heels eheh!

How can people best support your band?
Bandcamp and merch stands at gigs are the only real ways. Fuck Spotify and all other half-assed digital shit holes of today. They’re good for nothing.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thanks for your patience and for sticking around with a mob that’s as slow-moving as Assumption. Cheers!
