Doomed Confessionary: Hans Eiselt-von Hollaky (Krun Macula)

Krun Macula is a heavy psych/space rock band from Berlin/Hannover, Germany with members of Klotz, Acid Spit, Rodeo Drive, Ewok and Samsara Blues Experiment.

Their debut EP »Echoes Of The Virtual Utopia« was released on August 3rd, 2024. Available now on limited cassette tape and all streaming platforms. This 3-track EP was recorded by Daniel Körner between 2023 and 2024 at Orwohaus in Berlin. Mastered by Richard Behrens at Big Snuff Studio Berlin.

Krun Macula are Hans Eiselt-von Hollaky (guitar, vocals), Michael Kaufung (bass, backing vocals) and Thomas Vedder (drums).

Can you say a few words about your band?
Krun Macula was founded in 2023 by Thomas Vedder (drums) and Hans Eiselt-von Hollaky (guitar/vocals) in Berlin. After a few jam sessions as a duo, our old friend Michael Kaufung joined us on bass and backing vocals. We have known each other for ages and have played together in some previous bands before Krun Macula in bands like Klotz and Samsara Blues Experiment. Our music combines our musical preferences (psychedelic rock, krautrock, stoner and doom)!

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
For us as musicians, the club closures and lockdowns caused by the pandemic were a tough experience. We all had to take long breaks from live performances. It was also not easy for us to organize regular rehearsals in the last year because our bassist Michi lives in Hannover. But arranged effectiv weekend sessions!

What can you be most proud of so far?
We are super happy that we stuck to our visions despite the geographical distance and often managed to rehearse for entire weekends! Concentrated songwriting and long sessions into the night made it possible for us to officially release our debut EP »Echoes Of The Virtual Utopia« on November 15, 2024! We were intensively supported by our long-time friend and sound engineer Daniel, who recorded and mixed our EP.

What was your biggest regret?
We regret that we did not play together sooner in this well-harmonized line-up! 😉

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
The band is brand new and our tape release show at the Neue Zukunft in Berlin took place just some weeks ago. We had a great audience and were able to share the stage with the legendary Pyrior and the fantastic Pink Wonder. The concert was special for us because we were able to celebrate our songs live for the first time. The response was great and we are looking forward playing more concerts in the coming years!

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
The Berlin music scene is very diverse and there are various rock, experimental, punk and metal events every night! On the evening of our release show there were several Rock shows in the immediate vicinity and yet the club was still packed! Big part of the heavy underground music scene was at our concert and the atmosphere was great!! Berlin is a nice city for music lovers!

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Each of us listen to different music from prog rock, jazz and stoner to extreme metal. To name some of the important underground bands of Berlin: Aptera, Have Blue, SEK, Uranus Front, Neander, Pink Wonder, Karsk, 24/7 Diva Heaven and cannabineros.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Difficult question… It is important for musicians to be able to take criticism well. At the same time, it is necessary to be able to express constructive criticism, otherwise it can lead to stress and arguments. In addition to regular practice, patience and perseverance are very important.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Sweets and Smokes….

Can you say something more about current music scene in Berlin?
As far as I can see, most bands from the stoner, doom and hard rock scene rehearse in the east part of Berlin. This is probably due to infrastructure and price advantages. With Krun Macula we rehearse in a great house project, the so-called Orwohaus, which is managed by the association of the same name. Many of the live locations that are suitable for heavy underground music are also in the east of Berlin. However, like many other metropolises, Berlin is under great threat from gentrification and thus the displacement of the subculture. A development that has become increasingly acute in recent years….

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We have no further concerts planned for 2024. We hope to be able to play at some festivals in 2025 and are planning a small tour through Germany and neighboring countries. Stay tuned for news!!

What are your plans for the future as a band?
In the future we want to work on new songs and expand our live set. A few festivals in the summer and a small tours as a support for other Bands. In autumn or winter we want to go back into the studio to record and release new songs.

Do you have any special plans for New Year’s Eve?
The New Year is extremely stressful in Berlin. In Germany, fireworks can be set off without any control. So we look for a quiet place! 🙂

How can people best support your band?
We have released our debut EP »Echoes Of The Virtual Utopia« on Bandcamp. Our hand-numbered and limited cassettes and the digital album can be purchased there. The money goes directly to us, as we are still organizing and managing everything ourselves at the moment. But clicks on YouTube or likes on Facebook and Instagram also support us so that our music is spread further.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Trust in science! Stay peaceful and use your brain, your ass will follow. Keep calm and listen to Krun Macula!
