Doomed Confessionary: Jared Jordan (Carbon Decoy)

Carbon Decoy is a garage psych/acid rock/stoner rock from Detroit, Michigan.
Formed in 2020 in Southern Michigan as the recording project of Jared Jordan (bass) and Casey Rowe (drums, vocals), the duo developed a live set and spent the first half of 2021 playing live shows around Michigan. Earl Mudd then joined the band on guitar in July 2021.
Following their debut »Superstition Plagues The Purity Of All« (2024), Carbon Decoy have released their second album »Crush The Sun« on July 18th, 2025. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Erik Maluchnik.
Can you please say a few words about your band?
The band started in 2020 as a recording project bass (Jared) and drums (Casey) duo. Earl joined the band in the summer of 2021. We have spent the last few years working to create a following in Detroit, MI and started to branch out into other Midwestern cities.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Scheduling. Working together to incorporate 3 schedules. Day jobs, families, other projects. It takes a conscious effort by everyone to make time for the band.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Releasing 2 albums in 2 years completely independently.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Each show is different and special in it’s own way, but our album release at The Old Miami most recently was incredible. To see so many people show up and show love, friends both old and new. That is what makes the effort, the joy, the frustration, the work of putting an album out worth it.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Being “outsiders” to the city of Detroit, we were welcomed with relatively open arms as we made it our “home base.”
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Our playlists rotate regularly. From outlaw country to 90s hip-hop and everything in between, you never know what we are jamming in the van.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Just go for it.

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Detroit?
Detroit, MI has one of the greatest scenes in the world. There is an insane amount of rock and roll history, and we are doing our best to continue to carry that torch with so many other incredibly talented bands.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
You can find us semi-regularly in the city of Detroit. We have played cities around the Midwest including Chicago, Milwaukee, Grand Rapids, Fort Wayne, Indianpolis, etc. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to see where else we might pop up!
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Continue to write and record new music and play shows periodically.
How can people best support your band?
Buy a record, catch a show, share the music with someone you know!
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Two words. Thank you!
