Doomed Confessionary: Kostas “Corax” Katoikos (Blossom Death)

Formed in late 2018 in Varkiza, Greece, Blossom Death was established by former Sorrowful Angels frontman and lyricist Kostas “Corax” Katoikos, alongside Marita Makaronidi and drummer Argy Deligianopoulos. After debuting with the EP »Mistaken« in 2019, the band spent the following years expanding their line-up and refining a sound that balances heavy guitar riffs with atmospheric, melodic arrangements. 2023 saw the band release a split EP, »Eon Must Fail«, with In Burial.

Their debut album »Spirit«, out May 21st, 2026 via The Circle Music, is a move towards more complex, emotionally charged dynamics. The tracks lean into the contrast between dark, introspective melodies and high-intensity instrumental sections, reflecting the band’s focus on themes of transformation and depth.

Blossom Death currently consists of Kostas “Corax” Katoikos (guitar, vocals), Marita Makaronidi (vocals), Johny Litinakis (bass), Vassilis Koronas (guitar), Evmara Katoikou (additional vocals) and Argy Deligianopoulos (drums).

Can you please say a few words about your band?
So, our band combines a lot of our favorite genres that trace times from our lifes. Such as happy memories, hard times, difficulties and more. All of these captured in between goth and alternative noises. Music is what hold us in our darkest periods and inspired us to turn the gloom into art that reflects light. Our music is mostly about psychological traumas, the difficulties of a love life and the inner conflicts from a millennial’s point of view.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
The biggest challenge for the band was to overcome our fears and step out from our comfort zone. The biggest challenges welcome the greatest changes.

What can you be most proud of so far?
So far, we are the proudest of accomplishing my daughter (Evmara Katoikou) in the band. Combining her musical talent with our composing brings out a harmonic sound and energy to the band. We are also proud of working on our chemistry on the concerts and increasing our playing abilities during rehearsals.

What was your biggest regret?
Well, we don’t really share a regret but the closest to that is that we regret not having enough faith in us in the beginning of our musical journey. If we can do it then so can you.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Our best concert so far was the one that took part in the Athens music venue known as “KYTTARO” during the colder months. We believe that it was our best concert because we got my daughter to sing with us for the first time in such a big place. We definitely loved how warm and emotional the crowd got during our last song »Before I Can See«.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
The biggest surprise in the music scene was thay we never thought how appreciated our melodies and tunes would get.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
That if you don’t belong in the crowd, you belong on the stage. The exception is the only direction and we should be proud of it.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Hmmmm even though we belong in the metal music community that doesn’t mean we don’t like old school pop hits like »Hit Me Baby One More Time« by Britney Spears…

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Greece?
Well, in the country and state that we are currently living in metal music and darker gothic tastes are not really appreciated, but there are always people who support our music journey and have a different mindset.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We are planning an album presentation for our new album »Spirit«.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We don’t really have any crazy plans; we go with the flow and it will lead us to the river.

How can people best support your band?
People can best support our band by delivering our message to others.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
The sky might be dark but it’s time for the moon to shine and blind all the stars.
